Right first game of Spirit Island with the wife yesterday! Stuck to the simplified 'first game' ruleset as suggested in the rulebook. Slow start but we figured out the turn order after the first couple of rounds - but still slow going when trying to select power cards to play (the push/gather interactions require a bit of thought!) I'd say it was at least a couple of hours of game time before eventually losing out on blight - because of me when I misread a power card... First impressions though I love it! I can see how there's so much variability to look forward to and the two spirits we played were completely different. My other half isn't quite as big a fan mostly as it took us a while to get into a better rhythm of play. Hopefully that improves! Then I tried a solo game today (with just one Spirit) and I lost again - I think this will take a few more tries before I have any chance of winning a game! You get overwhelmed quite quickly. Having only played two spirits (the earth and the fire one) it is quite amazing how varied the game feels! And another six spirits to try out. Impressive game - good recommendation thanks for the suggestions earlier folks |
