The Red Turtle - 9/10
A slow, beautiful and very contemplative animated film. A man is washed up on a desert island and the film tells the story of his life there. I can't really talk much about it without spoiling it but it's a mysterious and surreal. There's no dialogue at all and the plot doesn't offer an answer for every question or even any answers at all. There a lots of little touches like amusing little crabs that are constantly following the man about and getting into scrapes.
It's not a Studio Ghibli movie and anyone expecting a heart-warming feel-good movie for people of all ages will be disappointed. It's an antidote to any who find Hollywood children's movies loud, crude and sentimental.
I've heard good things about this, but feel I have to point out it is a Studio Ghibli film, not sure if you made a typo, or if you meant it might be produced by them but is not similar in tone to their other stuff (although I think their work is very diverse in tone). |
