The subplot re: the codebreaker was the catalyst for finding out about the rebel's true plan (when he snitched on them). This in turn resulted in Luke reconciling with his failure and giving the remaining rebels the chance to escape. The casino bit was a bit rubbish, but it did serve a point.
This huge plothole annoys the hell out of me, the codebreaker reveals the plan to the first order. Oh wait you mean the plan that literally about 3 people know about, none of them being anyone that has any contact with the code breaker. So yeah the casino sub plot was pointless. |
