We watched it when my daughter was 9 or 10 and, like everything made before 1995, she found huge chunks of it slow and boring and absolutely couldn't get over the fact '...but that's his mum!?!', but she understood the plot. Except for what a Libyan is.
We watched ET for the first time a few weeks ago and it was quite odd some see someone simultaneously entranced and delighted and almost bored to tears.

The kids followed the plot just fine, though my son (9) was definitely weirded out by the whole "mum lusting after son" part. |
