I think they could reboot the terminator series correctly, they just need some creative people. Not have big setpieces

Ive also not watched this since it's original release (agree with your sentiments on Genysis and Dark Fate), but I remember it just feeling like such wasted potential.

The concept of taking us to the future war, for a new trilogy, potentially leading up to the events of Kyle Reece being sent back or the Terminator being reprogrammed and sent back, is pretty much perfect. Doesn't soil the originals, but gives the writers a new narrative opportunity as very little of the future was covered in the originals. Also, who didn't absolutely love the flashback scenes in the original of the future war? It could have been absolutely epic, and even had a peak, post-Dark Knight Christian Bale as the lead.

Instead, I just remember it not looking like the future war I expected, John Conner not being the leader everyone expected, the Marcus story being infamously given away by the trailer, and ultimately it all being a bit...shit.

I never hated Terminator 3 to be honest, so happy to accept that as cannon, but if I had to take an offshoot of T2, it wouldn't be Genysis (more a worse retelling), or Dark Fate, it would be the Sarah Connor Chronicles. Shame that series was cut short, as by the end of Season 2 I was really looking forward to season 3.
