I'm not put off by it - I'm just saying I won't be able to ring up and discuss these things at work which makes it awkward. I'm assuming most places will be closed by the time I get home tonight so I'm not sure what I can do to help secure a deal in principle by when I go see this house next.
Your right of course. Damned banks and their "hours" it is completely impossible to organise and you shouldn't even bother. -

Well make an appointment to go and see someone on Saturday then. You know, like normal people do who work. Oh, and by the way, my mum worked for the police in IT for over 15 years and managed to get all sorts done on top of her work. -

So you can post fucking shite on an internet forum all day long while working, but you can't pop out in your lunchbreak to sort out the single biggest investment of your life?
Stop wasting our time you moron. -

Registered 17 years agoHow do I know that stuff? Because you've posted it, blize, some of it several times. I have a reasonably good memory for conversation, especially where somewhat surprising statements are made.
As for not being able to converse about your mortgage at work... why not there if you can do it here? -

Ah, you definitely have a unique situation there. A job you say? Yup, nobody else buying a house has a job which keeps them busy during normal working hours. Hmm, what to do? -

No, but I am simultaneously amazed and terrified by his post
You are amazed that someone actually remembered often repeated details of someone who lives his entire existence out on the internet, like a cross between Timothy from Sorry and a fucking tamagotchi? -

Registered 17 years agoYeah, arraning 'in principle' a breakdown of how much money you earn, how it will be spent and therefore what sort of debt the bank will let you be in for the rest of your life - definately should be a check box on an internet form - fuck going down to the bank and chatting to a specialist for 3-40 minutes about something that affects the rest of your life.
my vote is for blize being a sock. -

Registered 12 years agoYou can find many advisers who work on the basis of kick back rather than upfront costs. Yeah, they may not be quite so independent, but hardly any are! All FSA monitored anyway -

Registered 14 years agoBlize, the agent the house is up with will more than likely have a mortgage advisor. Make an appointment with him/her for now. Go in, tell them what you're hoping to borrow (roughly). They'll ask you a load of questions, then give you an agreement in principle (hopefully). You might need to provide bank statements/wage-slips for the past 3-6 months.
Then if you get an offer accepted read the mortgage section on moneysavingexpert, find a whole-of-market broker and see them.
And if you really want to get this house before it gets snapped up, use the phone with your agents rather than email. It's much, much quicker & effective in my experience. -

I would go to an IFA but that's going to cost, and it'd be a waste of time if I don't purchase in the very near future
If you're going to progress your interest in any meaningful way then you simply have to accept that you will bear some costs which, if you change your mind or are unsuccessful, will represent dead money. -

most Mortgage advisors work on comission from the products. So, it'll be free. -

No it isn't going to cost, they just get commision from the mortgage provider.
Fuck me, I think you're better off staying where you are. -

I would go to an IFA but that would mean going outside where it's all loud and terrifying. I'll just get mummy to buy me the big house and put my fingers in my ears when she tells me about the money because she said the numbers will be all big and scary and I won't understand them.
