Potatoes don't grow under water. -
There were some Irish chaps wandering round the neighbourhood the other day trying to sell what were obviously stolen goods, pushed around in a wheelbarrow.
I did for a minute wonder if it could get any more of a cliche. -

And yes, they're not a meat so they're a veg. Like pasta. -

Registered 17 years agoI almost won a pub quiz on my own a few weeks ago. Not cos I have no friends, honest, but because we didn't realise there was a quiz on and the two people I'd come with were only there to discuss a trip to Australia so didn't participate as they were nattering the whole way through. I was in the top three the whole way, first at one point, though pipped at the post by a bunch of pub quiz nerds. True story. A very true, very dull story.
So in conclusion; I am great. -
Not that great because you didn't win

And I don't mean the promise of attracting a new audience (which I don't think has happened as much as some will claim, but that's not really the point here).
So you agree that they have attracted new audiences now? It's a big day when you admit to being wrong. Anyway, that was one of their promises and, as you say, they have achieved it.

I'm talking about gaming promise. We were promised unchecked innovation. A seismic paradigm shift in the genre. New ideas!
I suppose you could point to Wii Sports. But again, it was a launch game, and nothing similarly fresh has followed it since.
OK, so with their very first game they deliver on their promise and yet you create this thread. The fact that it was a launch game makes it better, not worse.

But so far, one year in, and the reality of the Wii is that its biggest games are...a Mario platformer, a Metroid shooter, a Zelda adventure game, a remake of Resi 4
Could that be because they are series that are among the ten best games ever created? Two of the games are even on the top ten list of gamerankings.

and a Paper Mario RPG.
Is it that big?

Which, aside from a different method of control, all fall very much into the category of same old, same old.
Show me the quote where Nintendo said anything about not using the Wii remote to breathe life into old genres. I think they said the exact oposite.
Nintendo promised to reach new gamers. They did.
To make a console the size of three DVDcases stacked together. They failed
To make a console people would keep in their living room. They did
To make it quiet enough so that it could be turned on at all times. They did
To tear down entry level barriers wrt controls. They did
To have full BC. They do
To give owners a reason to turn on their Wii every day. It's slowly getting there
You have to remember that you are not of any interest to Nintendo what so ever. They are not going after the 20-25 young male. Your view on Nintendo is seriously tinted by your fear of the "death of gaming as we know it". I've yet to see you write anything coherent oin the topic. (well any topic to be honest although I see you are pretty active in the football threads)
Anyways, Halo 3s runaway success means that there is still money to be made from 20-25 year olds. Nintendo are best at making money and are sure to take note of this.
Next time, could you please make an effort and prove the death of gaming as we know it. -
It's lived up to the promise that I thought it had. -

This guy writes like a complete bell-end.
Here's a tip: try reading what you've written out loud - if it sounds pompous and pretentious then it probably is.

Registered 17 years agojoeking, the problem is that your opinions on this matter are well and truly known by all; you are a strong 360 advocate. Hence any threads you create about the Wii will be read by most as posts with an agenda, and hence a possible troll.
It's much like when the Conservatives ask questions about the government: "Has Labour lived up to their promise?" would actually mean "Labour are shit and we rock!". -

I'm assuming what you have quoted there is a small part of a 'jumbo bullshit bundy special essay'. -
The Wii hasn't lived up to its promise for me. The motion controls have only mapped on-screen action effectively in selective games. In most, there's some shake/waggle/some other artificial device which often feels as an excuse for using the remote.
So, disappointments (aside from poor software until recently):
(i) motion controls have scarcely mapped on screen action in all but the sporty/party games.
(ii) Conversely, most of the technically advanced games seem unable to map exact motion on-screen- so hopes for a sword fighting game with your motion reflected on screen look like they'll never be fulfilled.
Wii Sports is still ace. -

Definitely picking up a US one before I head back to the UK. -
Joe’s posting style aside, for me it has not lived up to its promise, but I am stating to make peace with the thing.
My problem with it has always been that I felt I had been duped into getting one, as I was expecting the control scheme to add an extra level of depth to games, but instead it ended up being almost the opposite, with the majority of games being especially shallow.
However, I can see its appeal, and think it’s good that lots of new people are getting into gaming because of it, and so what if they’re not my kind of games.
Also Mario absolutely rocks and has at least given me something to play on it. -

Yeah - the problem with writing in 'management speak' is that people quickly lose interest. In joeking's case, I can't get past the first para of every post before yawning.

It's like he's trying painfully, desperately, hard to get a Job as a writer or something.
He get;'s more and more like a smarmy, smug, socially retarded RL version of David Brent with every comment he makes.
It's sickly, awful, and worst of all, it's down right embarrassing. -
