| The extension runs off that socket for the sky box so somehow I had just managed to plug everything back in the wrong order. Since I noticed it has been working fine however with no drop outs although those sites I mentioned yesterday were still unaccessible but seem to be working now. |

O2 do traffic throttle on evening and weekends for P2P sites and such like. I dont use such sites, but I do find my O2 (not unbundled) is slower evenings and weekends. I called O2 and they said its because I have some heavy users in my area (which is why the traffice throttling is being wheeled out).
I hope O2 get the local exchange unbundled soon, but as I'm in a village, I cant see that happening in a hurry.
On the plus side, O2 is much much better than BT, the amount of times I had disconnects and pathetic service from them was untrue.
I've not had any problems whatsoever with their router with my PS3 or Wii though. Both just connected straight away after I put in the details. I also tend to turn the thing off when I'm not using it and have no issues as a consequence. It boots up pretty quick, so I'm saving a few pence and buggering up a few pikey bastards maybe into the bargain. -

Registered 18 years agoOoh, looks like Sky is now LLU at my exchange. Do I have to use their router? Just forked out £80 for a new one, would like to actually use it! -

Registered 16 years agoI do believe you're in breach of Sky's Ts & Cs if you don't use their router. -
Yeah. Plus they don't provide you with a username and password, and there's no indication of it in the router. -
According to skys T&C's you have to use the supplied router and the username/password are already set and hidden. However there is a site that using the routers S/N,etc calculates the login details, so using a different router is possible. So far Sky haven't taken any actions against people using different routers. However the supplied router is actually pretty good so may be worth giving it a chance. Less wear and tear on your paid for router that will still be around in the future should you need it. -

Registered 18 years agoI thought that was the case but wasn't sure. Hmm, need to have a think, it is much cheaper. Might give them a call and see what they offer me, I already give them £55 a month!
Can always flog the new router. Bit nervous, my connection is absolutely rock solid. Incredibly through Talk Talk, after they took over my IS -

Registered 16 years agoThey used to give out re-branded Netgear DG834GTs which are a pretty decent router and quite stable as they use Broadcom ADSL chipset. However, I think they now send out a re-branded Sagem and I've no idea what they're like. -
When they replaced my router last week they sent me a grey netgear jobby. I'm back on the old white one now as the grey one didn't actually work! -
As far as I know they have for at least the last year or so been sending out both Netgear's and Sagem's. Its random which you end up with but I haven't seen many complaints about either. Mine is a netgear and is rock solid. -

What is your obsession with routing traces? -

Thanks for the info, I'll give it a try tonight.
Rapidshare is working for me now.
@iHAZaCHEEZ3burger: Absolutely no problems with live or PSN, wireless or wired. Easiest way to set up live is to give the 360 a static IP then put it in the routers DMZ. So far PSN has worked without any configuration to the router. -

Just try writing a post with the word "trace route" (without the space) anywhere in the forum. Then you'll see

Your link is broken wobbler.
edit: I guess traceroute is no longer causing the forum to give a 403 error then :-s -

Registered 18 years agoHave you Sky broadbanders moved over to full LLU, line rental and all? -

Registered 16 years agoYeah I have the full line rental package. I even used my own router for the last year or so before it died the other week. I'm now using the supplied netgear one and it has been fine. -

I don't like the supplied router thing. I know you can use their router, but it's the principle of it. The sky router they sent me was faulty, and they refused to give me the login details and still charge me while I wait 5 days for their router.
So ofcourse I just got the details myself and used my own router. But I work from home and don't like the idea that they are within rights to terminate any moment because of this, and I don't like the feeling that i am doing something naughty.
I don't buy their line rental, I pay BT for this as far as im concerned the exchange to my house is between me & BT and whatever router I use should be none of the ISPs business... -

Registered 18 years agoAnyone got any idea of the contention ratio of Sky's products?
The router thing is annoying me. Wondering whether I'm making too big a deal out of it though -
So as part of joining sjy I get free basic broadband. But I have no idea what to expect. Do they send me a router? How do I know when my broadband has switched?
Sorry for all the questions on Sky but they were bloody useless on the phone.
