Well, it'd be a reason to put music on your PS3, I guess.

Features like in-game messaging, custom soundtracks, and screenshot modes have all been in the PS3 firmware for months, but developers have to enable them on a game-by-game basis. It's just that to do so incurs a large memory cost, and so we've hardly ever seen them used.

One of the things Sony has been trying to do in recent firmware updates is to reduce the memory cost of these extras. I'm guessing that they are now at a level where it's becoming easier for devs to accommodate them in their games, and we so we will probably see them more and more from now on.

It's not just these new games -- Resistance has always allowed access to your friends list (and thus messaging) from its multiplayer menu.

Dunno what music'd be appropriate for bowling. May have to download some pub music (Queen, Robbie Williams, etc.)

That probably explains why Kane & Lynch looks so bloody jaggy compared with the 360 version. The demo I tried last night even had v-sync tearing!

/is not in the slightest bit impressed

The APIs have only been available for around 6 months so it's not surprising that hardly any games are using it.

Over time we should see them start to be used more...
