I've had this marked down as "obviously shit" for about a year. But squarejaw's bloodthirst has actually got me quite excited. *Fingers crossed I don't have to play a gimped port. |

I might cancel my pre-order. -

Looks awesome. I'm personally going to have to get both - this and Infamous. -

I like this phrase. Mind if I use it?
You're absolutely right though - there's something about Prototype, or more specifically it's coverage, that is disconcerting and I can't put my finger on it at all... -

Registered 17 years agoWasn't interested in this game until I found out it's coming to the PC as well. I'll definitely be keeping my eye on this one although it's released a mere two weeks after inFamous so it may be too similar to warrant immediate purchase. Will there be a demo? -

Registered 17 years agoThey've gone for scope, rather than attention to detail, so everything looks a bit rough and unfinished. His animations are jerky and super fast rather than smooth and refined, and there's no real detail in the city, it's just chock full of shit to kill/smash through.
It looks fun in 5 minute bursts but nothing more. I want to know how it's actually structured and paced before I get really interested, as it doesn't seem to do, well, anything, other than tearing through massive crowds over and over. -

I think there must be more to it than we have seen. The whole assimilating other peoples appearance so you can go certain area's without anyone noticing you seems to indicate you can not just approach everything in all out assault mode.
Of course maybe that feature is half baked and you don't actually really need it but it does sort of suggest there is more depth in this one than we have seen so far. -

Looks brilliant, rough around the edges but soooo much fun. The more I see of this, the more sold I am.
Video
When I watched that I couldn't help but think this is the Dark Side game to Infamous Good side game. Coz I couldn't imagine anything in Infamous getting as depraved as that.
And did did he really give a tank the People's Elbow? -

I hope so, but they keep showing the same thing over and over. He takes over a guy, he points at someone else, walks away and the other dude gets shot. AWESOME!
And then 3 minutes of tearing waves and waves and waves of stuff apart. It's ok if that's all it is, it'll find a place in the market, but I did that in Ultimate Destruction.
And it just doesn't look very polished at all. -
I fail to see what's wrong with a game where you get to tear shit up and run really fast for no reason.

yah, I was thinking that today -
And not very polished? Man! The framerate keeps up, that's about the one thing it needs outside of being very silly.
edit - also, you can steal military hardware through the shapeshift mechanic. There's a video on this very page that shows it. -

It's dull after the first 5 minutes. If that's all you want, cool, but you have no place calling repetition in any other title.

Personally, I'd like to see something a bit, well, more than that in current games. If this is just Hulk 2 then, as a studio, they haven't learned anything, and I'll pass.
edit: Solid framerate is great, but it's nicer when I actually have something interesting to watch in that framerate. His animations are incredibly basic and not very smooth. And he's far too fast - it's just barely controlled destruction.
And you can steal military hardware by walking up to it and hijacking (also shown in the videos), so forgive me for not being excited about wearing a different skin to do the same job.
I know you love it, sjh, and if it's good I'll get it too, but it doesn't look any different to H:UD. -

Registered 14 years agoBasically if this gives me a big open world to run around faster than a car, leap over buildings, slice dudes up with a massive blade hand thing and drop-kick tanks then I'll be more than happy. -
I'll wait to see if it's dull after the first five minutes, because I've seen gameplay that showcases far more to do than Crackdown, and that game was fantastic fun.
Repetition can be both a blessing and a curse. We'll see if it's cursed, but if the 3minute gameplay vid is anything to go by then I'm pretty sure this one is going to be a cultish winner. -
Whereas I need a narrative driven thing otherwise I end up thinking "what is the point in all of this beyond 'I can do something cool'". I'm more of a "what does this mean for my character" type, and if he doesn't go beyond "I run and smash" then I lose the draw.
Not saying either way is the 'right' way, but it seems to be the fundamental opposing desires that sets Saints Row 2 people off against GTA4 people. -

Registered 14 years agoI don't need some sort of opus, but a little narrative is definitely needed to give some motivation. I'm sure Prototype will have something satisfactory. -

But GTA IV's plot was horribly clichéd and contained paper thin characters? ........... sorry.
To be honest I love games with a brilliant narrative and they tend to be the kind of games I play the most, however not all games need a great story, certain genres like action RPGs and big open world games don't necessarily require it imo, sometimes great, addictive gameplay can see a game through even if the story is utter pap, just my opinion. -

The story is about on a par with the rest of the dribble that passes as stories in games, and comes across as "sight jacking" (ugh) when you take over anothers body. Look throught the thread and you'll find the story trailer.
It looks no worse than its "competitor" in this regard.
