Yep, from the shooterís manifesto I somehow donít think cartoons in the NY Times are whatís driving the antisemitism amongst young white males.
I haven't seen the manifesto*, but isn't the point that this kind of thing and the cartoons are both coming from the same background noise? To varying degrees of fucked-upness.

*and probably won't ever see it, please enlighten me if any assumptions I make are wrong.

I don't get it. What is that cartoon supposed to be? I am missing some context.
Itís satire showing Trumpís Middle East policy being dictated by Netanyahu. I recall seeing similar cartoons years ago with Blair being led by Bush.

Linking a paperís critique of Trumpís relationship with Israel has to do with a far right terrorist shooting up a synagogue takes some pretty stretched logic though. Shameful to see people trying to turn a tragedy into an excuse to attack the NYT.

Whatever the many legitimate reasons to be anti Netanyahu this kind of image can help in the legitimising and mainstreaming grotesques and stereotypes of Jews and anti-Jewish conspiracy which feed into the violence of the far-right and madness of the conspiracist left.

The context in which a cartoon like that is read isn't just the current political climate re: the Israeli government but the modern history of the representation of Jews and Jewish power.

That's why a paper of record like the NY Times needs to be extremely aware of what it's publishing and how it might be received

Well yeah, that's completely fair and y'know, I'm not jewish so definitely not an expert in talking about the offense this might cause. But the guy attacking the synagogue was clearly inspired by other bigoted cretins online in places like 8chan rather than satirical cartoons in the NYT. He makes his disdain for the mainstream media pretty clear.

Originally I thought "oh come on, surely if anyone could find a way to criticise the US-Israel alliance without getting all anti-Semitic, it would be the NYT".

Then I looked at the cartoon. Wow, holy fuck that's pretty bad.

Keep reading about these 8chan places so was curious as to what it was (what else do you do at 4.30am)

Holy shit what a cesspit of humanity. Donít know if half the people on there are ďjokingĒ or something but fuck itís sick.

Well that's just it isn't it, some people on there just saying the most controversial things possible to get a reaction and others there who take it seriously. The dangers of 'shit-posting' I guess. Just depressing as fuck for humanity all round.

Obviously Iím not suggesting this cartoon caused the shooting FFS. It does however show the level weíve now reached with antisemitism becoming mainstream, which is part of why these shootings occur.

And fuck anyone trying to Ďshameí me for making that point. All Iím doing is raising awareness of racism. Iím sick of being attacked for doing that. If you attack someone and attempt to shame them for speaking out against racism then what does that make you? I realise these points make some people uncomfortable. I donít care. Fuck
    You.

Honestly, I no longer care to spend time and energy separating online residents who actually are terrible human beings, from those who are just pretending to be terrible human beings for the lols.

I don't think the distinction is important anymore. Much better just to assume that they're serious, and act accordingly.

Perhaps one of our resident experts on antisemetism would like to explain why Trump is wearing a skullcap in that cartoon, and how it isnít antisemetic.

I tend to stick by one of the lessons of Kurt Vonnegut's Mother Night - you are who you pretend to be. Whatever you might think in your head, it's your actions in the world that define you in reality.

Which is a roundabout way of saying I agree. The distinction is basically null now.

He's finally disavowed the 'subscribe to PewDiePie' thing, apparently. The video also contains his 183rd protestation that 'im not racist'.

You know who doesn't have to keep saying 'im not racist'? People who aren't racist.

Have to agree with this - pretending to be a terrible person makes you one. Obviously shades of grey and all that, but having the intent sets you along the path.

It's literally a tactic they have consciously chosen to adopt. If you adopt a jokey attitude, you can brush everything off as lolz while normalising being horrible fuckholes.

Although it is wearing thin now. It's pretty much a given that if someone is joking about being a racist prick, he's a racist prick.

It's hard sometimes. I have an irl friend who's made a habit of shitposting all sorts of sexist, racist rubbish on a Discord channel we frequent. His real life persona is so different, and I have trouble reconciling that with what he does online.

I think he's spent so much time in the worst corners of the internet that it's basically broken him, I'm not sure even he knows if he's being serious or not.

Wasn't there some document published on stormfront (or some similar site) a few years ago which laid out their strategy for rebranding fascism by dressing smart, and disguising their racism as ironic humour and internet meme culture?

The snake that's eating itself is eating itself. And dragging the rest of us with it

Guy plans "revenge for NZ terror attack" attacks. Includes Jews and police.

This, sadly, is according to plan. This is so fucked up. They're (redpillers and militant islamists) now basically the same side, united in their fight against people with good lives.
