so far i have had my wii upright in its offical stand, but i have been thinking maybe laying it horizontal may put less stress on the drive motors, and provide better cooling. (does look a bit arse though, like the original ps2 looking like a matsui vcr) how do you position yours? |

Registered 14 years agojust put mine horizontal now, and with the memory hatch half open, and the glowing disc slot, it is kind of reminisint of a robot face (blue cylon perhaps?) -

Registered 14 years agoVertical. Because it looks cooler. the thing never seems too hot and stands free with nothing to back heat up. Although, the point on the drive motor's a good one...
I might try putting my old xbox on it's side, see if it looks cooler... :/ -

Registered 17 years agoVertical, because it's sandwiched inbetween stuff, along with my PS2. Used to have my xbox on it's side too (again space). -

Registered 16 years agoVertical. I have a nice room divider next to my TV furniture with some "slots" (cannot think of a better word to decribe it) where I put my stereo, my barebone and my Wii for example. Every device gets its own place which allows me to actually have the Wii sit there in an angle so when you look at it from the sofa or standing in front of it then it looks just like it does in the ad images (or this one: http://www.mynintendo.de/wp-content/uploads/2006/10/multicoloredwiis.jpg).
It's quite nice this way because it takes up most of the room there is and the furniture doesn't look too empty. -

Registered 14 years agolooking at the stand, it has a hole in the bottom that lines up with the vent on the wii's bottom/side. this would be blocked by the surface the wii is stood on.
surely the airflow is not as good in the stand, as if it were on its side? -

Registered 15 years agoIf you don't put it in the stand it makes the Nintendo designers cry:
"from the point of view of the designer, I would like to say that I hope you use Wii in its upright position, with the stand!" (Wii designer Ashida-san) -

But if you use the stand then a much greater surface area can be cooled by the air around the unit. -

Registered 15 years agoThe Wii runs much cooler than most similar electronic systems, the system is designed to have low energy consumption, so it really think it doesn't matter from the heat point of view. Looks far better in the stand though! -
