Registered 18 years agoI'm still looking (right skills, wrong experience) but these sites seem to be pretty well looked at by various agencies:
www.gojobsite.co.uk
www.reed.co.uk
www.jobserve.co.uk
I just registered my CV on the three, and have had, and am still getting, plenty of calls from agencies.
The GoJobSite e-mail is well organised and worth subscribing to, the others are... meh!
The only other advice I can offer is don't be afraid to offer to re-target your CV, this seems to impress the agents and maybe gets them to workharder for you.
Finally avoid an agency that is rising (hint), they put shit loads of ads up, but doesn't seem to have any jobs to pimp... -

You have to laugh at Codemasters...every single job has that awful "Applicants should be of graduate calibre"
Spose graduates are the perfect people to sit around playing games all day...!

Registered 14 years agoNow here's a ressurection job for you!
So, need some advice my venerable gaming colleagues.
My wife became preggers the same week she quit her job and hasn't been able to work since. We live around West London, you may have heard it is expensive.
I started a new job 6 months ago and asked to work remotely but was refused as they don't want to set a precendent and have everyone leave the office. Fair enough but we really can't survive on my wage alone. It's a decent wage but we will really be stretching with three of us.
So any advice about any of this would help. To be honest I just need to vent to someone and you lot are anonomyous enough to be useful.

Worst timing ever! Could she not have said "Nah, just kidding!" and gone back, then taken the maternity leave?!
That's my main advice, sorry.
I did have a business idea this morning, the Dwarf Olympics, but apparently it's already a thing! -
If your wife can't work and your wage isn't enough then you have to either get another job or move to an area you can afford as I assume you've cut back all you can already. Sounds pretty crappy but I think those are your choices. -

Registered 14 years agoMoving is the main option but that will involve a job change. Which is a pain because I like this company and they treat me real good. Also I've only just got into this industry. So improving getting a better paid job are unlikely.
Just need to look at options. Kids eh? Who'd have 'em? -

Registered 15 years agoThey don't treat you good enough to allow you to work remotely so that you can look after your family whilst your wife looks for work.
But if sacrifices have to be made, moving is the easiest one to do.
What industry are you in? -

Registered 14 years agoOffice is in Sutton so not central anyway. Rent is 1250 at the minute. We could ceartainly save some money by moving but from what we have found it would be 100-150 a month. And the flat would be a biy pokey.
The problem with moving outwards from here is balancing any savings on rent with the increased travel cost.
Annoyingly I work in journalism but I only just got into that. Previously in geology, oil based stuff. So journalism is all centered in London and the oil industry is on its arse.
I think I'll have to try something completley new. -

Registered 11 years agoThough tbh 1250 is weirdly cheap rent for West London anyway. -

Why not just move to Sutton. Closer to job, cheaper to rent.
Sorry to be harsh, but if you need to live on one income then it's a case of moving to somewhere cheaper and/or getting your other half to work a bit (how far along is she?...)
You're probably going to have to downsize, and if you can couple that with cutting out travel costs then it's pretty much a no-brainer. Either that or start looking for a different job, which doesn't sound too appealing with only one of you in work. -

No, I think you'll really struggle even in the shitter parts of Sutton at that price. And the minute you head south of Sutton (where housing is a bit cheaper) public transport goes all 'Surrey' and stops existing
Should be able to find a 2 bed for £1000pm. Perhaps even in Sutton. Travel savings too that way. -

Registered 11 years ago@PES_Fanboy yeah, £1,000PM for a one bed let alone two is a stretch in London.
Like I said in my other message, £1,250 in a nice area of West London (which you kinda implied) sounds like a steal. If you love it there you're better off trying to make it work there and not move.
So that means getting that pregnant women of yours working. Nothing wrong with that though. Something has to give. -
