I was just wondering if its just me or do PS2 games on HDTV look a tad.. meh :S Im using component (the one with green red blue and a red and white for audio). I tried Soul Calibur 3 and Tekken 5 and they didnt seem to look as good as they did on the old crummy TV I used to have Any suggestions or insights? Im thinking it may be due to bein used to this whole hi-def graphics malarky on the 360 :S |

Registered 17 years agoTurn your PC monitor resolution down to 800 x 600 (or whatever) and see how shit it looks. That's basically what you're doing with your tv. -

Registered 16 years agoDon't even go there. Any SD source running on a HDTV will look shit- including PS2, Xbox, and Gamecube. It's worse for games consoles than it is for say a regular SD Sky box. -

Most of the problem is that you have gone from a 360 to a PS2. PS2 games look slightly worse on a HDTV than a normal TV however not to the extent every one else is saying. It takes a few minutes for your eyes to adjust then it is fine. (To me at least).
The PS2 looks as good / bad as I would expect on a HDTV. Essentially if it looks hideous you are sitting to close to the TV. The Wii however is another issue. It looks far worse than I would expect on a HDTV. I am hoping that a component lead will sort it out a bit. -

I said that a while back and got totally shot down. IMO games on the Wii on an HDTV do not look as good as (some games) onthe GC on a SD TV. For example Metroid Prime on a good quality CRT looks better than Prime 3 on an HDTV. Surely this is because the Wii is only 480p or whatever? -

Registered 16 years agoIt depends a lot on the HDTV and a lot of the settings.
Most TVs are delivered with atrocious colours and brightness set and contrast set to make them look good next to other sets in a showroom.
I can honestly say my Wii looks awesome on a 42 inch display, above 50 SD will start to look a bit sad but even on projector it's possible to get some pretty nifty looks if you know what you're doing.
So basically: Turn of any dynamic contrast you might have, turn down color saturation and brightness since they give small objects a slight "halo" and well, game objects tend to be small and move a lot giving it a smudged look.
Also, if you've got a cheapo cable it might give some awful colors, try playing with the color settings. An easy way to get everything right for the input is to run a calibration CD on your PS2, do run it on the PS2 since things look different from different sources and inputs. -
Not a PS2 game, but for some reason, Final Fantasy 8 looks better on my LCD HDTV than my old CRT SDTV. Both running on a PS2, but it's connected via component on the HDTV, and S-Video on the SDTV.
I was really surprised to say the least. Apparently, my HDTV upscales better than I thought.
