"A man who played video games for hours each day has been convicted of killing his 17-month-old daughter when she pulled out his Xbox console."

Just remember it was him that killed her, not the games! :(

No doubt the gaming link will be shouted about most here, despite the fact it could have happened in any manner of other ways because the guy is clearly fucked in the head.

Yeah, since as has been previously mentioned, the Wii would be in a dusty cupboard out of reach of small hands.

It won't be long until Jack Thompson gets hold of this one, I'm sure.

    QFT.

I hate the way even the slightest hint of a gaming angle seems to give journalists the carte blanche to argue that gaming leads on to actual violence.

The real scandal here is that social services didn't notice the problems here previously.

The fact that the child already had a broken arm when they last visited but they didn't notice doesn't make them look all that competent.

And ecosse there's possibly a time for your Nintendo drivel but it's not in this thread.

But Nintendo Wii cures cancer and saved the whale...

On a serious note though, this particular article did nothing to imply that the actual videogames being played had anything to do with the murder, just that the guy was obviously addicted to them. I've lost my rag when my mates turn off games but obviously never assaulted (and murdered) them.

I was gonna say - along with the guy who strangled his dad with an XBox cable, and the other shooting associated with XBox rage - you never see this happening with PS3.

    Hmm.

So strange that you ignored the 2 far more offence posts than mine...
    Stop stalking me please.

this really is bad taste, even for you. You are not doing the gaming community much good tbh.

Extremely spurious and slightly irresponsible journalism there. Rediculously heavy handed implicit linkage by whichever daily mail island reject wrote it. I mean how many people here could be described as "A man who played video games for hours each day"?
It's relevant, though, considering it really was over the XBox.

Is it not true to say that someone who is effed in the head might get more effed in the head if they played video games for hours on end wach day. Personally I blame the family for not doing something about his problems before it decended into this depraved act. It is also possible that this was a random act of mindless voilence, but even then he must of had issues with his child if he went as far to kill it. :/

    Sickening, just sickening.

Perhaps you should develop some comedic ability, one of the things that makes a joke work is timing. You don't have any.

I know how mad I'd get if someone pulled the cord out and I hadn't saved for ages.

Not killer mad, but if I was predisposed that way, I can totally understand snapping.

Games make certain people aggressive, or more aggressive.

    The end.

My bestest pal came round last weekend and came up to the 'office' where I was playing CoD4, on the bit on the last level where you have to shoot the terrist before he executes the president or whatevers, and started babbling some crap and poking me, causing me to execute the president.

I turned round to her, and I imagine, not unlike a rabid dog, spittled "FUUUUUUUUCCCCCKKK!" at her like a crazy person.

She went white, and then I realised perhaps I should stick to blue skies and football games, before apologising profusely, remembering that I had indeed already finished CoD4 at least twice and was just playing that level for hahas.

It's always when gaming's involved that people over-analyse the story and are like "but he could have snapped at any moment! Coincidence!"

But he snapped at that moment. That's what they had to report.

You unplug the console, you're taking the risk

Police in Bilbao, Spain have arrested an 18-year-old boy for allegedly attempting to strangle his father with a game console's controller cable, according to a report at Gizmodo.

The Gizmodo piece says the boy and his father were engaged in an argument over the boy's game playing habits. When his son wouldn't stop playing during the exchange, his father unplugged the unnamed console [let's assume it was the XBox - York], causing his son to lose his progress in whatever game he was playing.

It was at that point, police say, that the boy became enraged and attempted to strangle his father to death with his controller cable. The boy almost succeeded, but with help from his wife, the older man fought off his son.

Shortly after, police and paramedics arrived on the scene and arrested the boy in a nearby street. The boy is now in police custody awaiting judgment.
