Registered 13 years agoCamera and hub were fine; they could make that identical and have different "galaxies" and I'd be happy (unless it's really fucking hard, in which case I'll throw it out the window). -

I'm laughing right now at Ninty officially announcing that the game will have 90% new levels. Oh boy, didn't see new levels coming, shocker!
They never said levels.
Showing the trailer... in the original Galaxy, they explored circular worlds and played with gravity; but they realised there were a lot of ideas and opportunities that went unused; some real gems they wanted to see worked through. They originally wanted to use those to make a "Galaxy 1.5", but realised they could go even further, so now v2 has roughly 90% new content ratio to old/reworked ideas; roughly the same amount of content overall as the first Galaxy.

Registered 13 years agoWait, so it's going to include all the levels from SMG, plus new content?!? Wow, they should call that game Super Mario Galaxy Plus! /jk -

This definitely.
The lack of an exploration element was the thing I disliked the most about SMG and is the reason I prefer Sunshine (I know shoot me). -

No, the hub cannot be identical. Not just because it was crap, but also because it would defeat the point of the game being a sequel. -

Registered 15 years agoAgreed. It's got to be a new hub, new storyline (I actually thought the storybook was really nicely done in SMG) and new galaxies (obviously). I don't mind whether they keep the linear structure or go for a more explorative feel to be honest. -

Registered 16 years agoI'd like the hub to be much more compact. It became a bit of chore in Galaxy getting around it. I like the idea of the SMW map that I think Kay suggested. -

Actually I was joking.
I cannot see why they couldn't recycle the hub since it was the house of the mother goddess. They just need to add some more galaxies to each bit, no biggie. -

Sequels are not supposed to have the exact same levels as the previous game.
Levels, music, hub etc. - everything should be different. Even small things, like the little fanfares and the screen where you choose which star to go to in a level. Otherwise it'll feel like I'm just playing SMG: The Lost Levels, or something.
I'm being optimistic about this and hoping they use this sequel as a chance to improve on the first game, and Reggie's comment earlier on bodes well for that. -

Registered 15 years agoI'm with Kay on this - obviously, the graphics engine will the same and a lot of the basic game mechanics (jump, run, etc) will be the same, but everything else needs to feel 'new'. I'm pretty confident it will be: SMG has shifted over 8 million copies so there are lot of people out there who will want this game. -

I played SMG yesterday and didn't realise my surround sound was turned up very loud - when it shouted that, it scared the shit out of me

i want to go back to how 64 was where you could find any of stars at any time on the level. for example you could be searching for the first star on a level and stumble arcoss the 6th star.

i loved SMG but thought they should have scrapped the rather linear star collection by picking the scenario. it makes it too easy -
Um, that's not how 64 worked... -

You can still do quite a few arse about face. -
Right, "any time" does not mean "sometimes".
