I found the difficulty level to be spot on with SMG - just the right balance between fun and frustrating challenges. Let's hope they don't ramp up the dificulty too much with SMG2.
I think it could have done with one challenging level per stage (like the Dreadnaught or Toyland ones). No need to get silly with the difficulty and stop people from from getting to all the stages, but a good couple of handfulls of the good stuff would be very nice.

I don't care for difficult stages whatsoever. I don't need to be challenged. I just like to be filled with wonder. Throw in something new every stage and I'm happy. A tall order, and yet, for a Mario game, I feel it's what I've always received, so I expect it nonetheless. :)

I found SMG to be harder than I expected it to be - in the end though it could have been a lot more challenging after all but overall I think there was a nice balance between mildly challenging galaxies and much harder purple coins missions. Never struck me as even remotely frustrating.

I loved the 1st game but is this just more of the same or what ? would love it to be more than that.

    It will be.

I'm really excited simply because it can be better. I didn't get the sense of wonderment from the original that others did, but I found it to be a solid, innovative and occasionally amazing platform game. And while playing through I couldn't help but notice little things that they could have improved on. Okay, so the chances of them actually doing so for the sequel are very slim, but Miyamoto's comments about this posing more of a challenge has got me stoked.

    Plus - Yoshi! \o/

Higher difficulty doesn't really make me want the game any more. Truth be told I'd rather have more actual content. They should up the star count to 150.
  • Deleted user 17 November 2009 19:13:07
I'm hoping for lots of secrets, something that is missing from nearly all modern games these days :(

I'd rather they concentrated on making the most of the 120 stars, i.e. not reuse objectives or have any cheap levels. And higher difficulty doesn't necessarily mean it has to be ridiculously, frustratingly hard - not to complete the main game anyway.

I know, but I'm just not too concerned about difficulty in general. SMG was pretty easy, but I wouldn't mark it down for it.

We've just had some shocking news from an inside source at Nintendo: Sonic will be a playable character in Mario Galaxy 2! Wha?

More teasing from our insider: Sonic levels will be in 'Green Hill Galaxy'. Matthew's nearly in tears (of despair)

    A joke? It'd better be.

    Shirley not!

Still, would be good to have Sonic in a good 3D game.

It'd be great if Mario just fucked him in the ass. It's been a long time coming.

This 'trusted source' is clearly pulling our collective legs here.

I mean, Green Hill Galaxy? Seriously now. :D

I want a thrilling cutscene where Mario intones:

    "Luigi, I am your brother".

Itīs just been announced that Galaxy 2 will be released on May 23rd in the States. Thereīs nothing about a European release date, though...

    May 23rd? Wow!

Has anyone actually played it yet? Do we have any more than that E3 video?
  • Deleted user 24 February 2010 18:23:23
There will be a new trailer later and EG will play it tomorrow.

An announcement of a release date is such non-news to me.

    Why's that?

It's non-news in a sense that... well, we knew it was going to be released eventually. And the 'May 2010' date was bandied about soon after the game was unveiled at E3 last year.

Still, nice to have it confirmed. \o/

Except May 23rd is on a Sunday... might be the 25th instead for the US, and 28th for us lot.

Ah. We may just get it on Friday 21st then. :)

That new trailer's apparently amazing, but I won't be watching it. Oh, and the orchestrated soundtrack has been confirmed - not that it needed to be, anyway. \o/
