I would imagine that the website people are a different bunch to the forum management.

I didn't know what eses to do really.
Nooooooo, rauper runs the place and he comes in now and again. EG isn't as massive and faceless a corporate enterprise as you perhaps think. I'm pretty sure someone in the EG offices is a forum mod.
Yeah but I need to talk to the person responsible really. That's what the Batphone's for, isn't it?
No, it's for drawing the mods attention to posts in the forum that perhaps require their attention, not for appealing against action they've already taken which was presumably due to something they didn't want in the forum in the first place.

    Do you see the difference?

Yeah but he strikes me as a racist as well. FFS 90% of EG are racist in a joking manner. And as for the child abuse jokes, e.g. what's the best thing about twenty six year olds? There's 20 of them.

Or what do you get if you push a 7 year old down the stairs? An erection. All from EG.

I love dry humour, but just not racism humour. vermin does a great job of dry offensive humour without acting like a 1950's ignorant xenophobe.

    Who, Groove?

No, I think he probably got it for starting a thread in which he spoke about having been on the phone to some call centre staffed by an Indian chap (or some other foreign call-centre friendly nationality) and having misunderstood what the guy was saying at the end of the conversation to the point where he pretty much just hung up because he wasn't getting anywhere in terms of understanding what he was being asked by said call-centre operative, and how he felt bad about having done that.

Along with some sweeping generalisations about how they speak, I think the tipping point might have been the somewhat perjorative term he used to refer to foreigners that operate call-centres, although I only caught the first few posts and didn't see what sort of merry hell the rest of the thread descended into, nor the size of the hole he subsequently dug for himself while no doubt attempting to justify his original post...

    EG style IMO.

It's hard to say what is the acceptable 'style'.
It's at your own risk in trying to mimic it.
I got called (rightly so) for a 'joke' casually racist comment too.

    What did I learn?
Groove is an attention seeker :p

I fail to see why these jokes are acceptable and groove's clearly ironic post isn't.

If EG wants to be liberal and allow this sort of thing, it needs to be consistant - the boundaries of what's acceptable and what's not are clearly blurred at the moment.

    1. Agreed.

    2. Agreed.

    3. Fucked up is a bit overly judgmental - I think 'stupid' or 'naive' is a bit less dramatic.

    4. How do you know he's not? That first post in this thread seems pretty apologetic.

That's the very point, I didn't think it was ironic at all. He just strikes me as a genuine racist.

I think it's unfair that I was banned BUT at the same time will do whatever the mos say IN SPITE of that. You don't get much better than that.

Now I'm just gutted I didnt get to see the original thread.

Given that most of us spent yesterday discussing how best to maim a load of five year olds with our bare hands, and some of the horrendous stuff that has cropped up in the Worst Joke thread, I dread to think what was actually said to result in a banning.
