Anyone read these? I've read 3 so far and have another 2 sitting here to get wired into. Much like Harry Potter sometimes kids get the best books. |

Registered 16 years agoThey certainly get the best fantasy, that's for sure. I can think of multiple juvenile literature fantasy that's in classic territory post Lord of the Rings, but nothing for adults. It's all badly written, no style shlocky stuff that apes AD&D.
As for Fowl is the next book out yet. The last one I read had a hysterical plot about a dorky demon and time travel, and was I think, the best of them all. I think every Artemis Fowl has improved on the last one. -

Try Magician by Raymond E. Feist, more like tolkien than AD&D, but easier to read, its certainly got style, and is well written, shown as I am currently on something like my eighth read through.
After that try the next two sequels, the 2nd being by far the weakest, but still worth reading. -

Registered 15 years agoHehe yeah I've read most of these, love his style of writing. Very funny. Last one I read was a while ago now, The Opal Deception I think? Can't remember what happened in it though, or what book is next. Was years ago. -

Yeah read the Magician trilogy a number of years ago and really enjoyed it.
Is Colfer seriously only doing 1 more Artemis Fowl book? -

There are 5 or 6 Artemis books, but yeah, from the ones I've read so far, they're all pretty well worth reading. -

Registered 15 years agoEoin Colfer's dad was a subsitute teacher for me at the end of primary school. What a fuckin' twat.
Eoin is not that bad though, you usually see down in a local book centre signing his books. He's probably the only famous person to come from Wexford.. -

After some thinking about it, I realized I have read the Magician trilogy. Thanks for the recommendation, and it's clear you like it, so I won't poo-poo on it here, but if I were of a meaner sentiment today the next three paragraphs would be full of vitriol about Raymond E. Feist and Magician. -

I have only read the Supernaturalist and quite enjoyed it.
However I prefer Garth Nix's books. The Abhorsen series is brilliant:
Sabrina, Lireal and Abhorsen.
Also reading the Morrow days books however they are no where near as good as Lireal or Abhorsen. -

Registered 15 years agoA big +1 for the Abhorsen series of books, loved them.
Ooh, also those Japanese books by Lian Hearn, can't remember their names and too lazy to look them up

The first few were very good indeed.
But then Colfer wrote that supposed 6th Hitchhikers book, and now he is scheduled for termination.
