Pah! You people with your reasoning!

    I don't have a Wii anymore, so I guess I don't give a shit either way.

I don't use online at all with my Wii (why bother?), so this looks very interesting indeed.

Nintendo haven't even released an update to prevent the Zelda:TP game save hack. I'd say they're not going to update the firmware to battle this for awhile yet..

Plus, who the fuck updates their Wii? Has any update been worthwhile?
  • Deleted user 28 February 2008 19:51:12
The last three updates have all been for the photo channel.
  • Deleted user 28 February 2008 19:51:56
Well, Nintendo could put updates on game discs as well. They're not exclusively online, I had to update when I first put in SMG.

I'll be very interested to hear if this works ok as I'd love to play MLB Power Pro's on my PAL machine.

Nintendo tolerated the GC Freeloader for quite a long time. I heard someone claim that they only killed it on the Wii when it was discovered it enabled some form of Wii piracy through a GC vulnerability that could be exploited with the Freeloader.

Whether true or not, I imagine they will try to kill it immediately if it allows piracy. If it doesn't, the number of users will probably be minimal and I can imagine they won't care, as those who import will still be buying games (probably more than they otherwise would), after all.

Cool if this works it not only means that I will get No More Heroes in with chanbara flavour but I will also be able to play Trauma Centre: New Blood.
    I am pleased.

This is because they can't fix it. It's not a bug in the firmware - it's a bug in the game's code, and the game's code cannot be fixed because you can't write to the disc.

I also have a cube freeloader and I never had any problems. Then again I only used it for one game but still. Remember that a Wii freeloader was announced quite some time ago. I'm sure they tested a lot of titles otherwise they would have released it already. As far as I remember only Japanese titles caused problems anyway, I think almost all the US releases worked fine.

I don't know the PSP's hardware well enough and I don't know the Lumines hack. It could very well be though that the buffer/stack overflow (or whatever it was) was triggered in the firmware itself and not the game code. It could also be that the firmware is much more active on the PSP so that it can prevent this.

Or like on the 360, where games actually look for patches and then apply them.

What the firmware can do is patch the game on the fly when it loads it into the memory. However, depending on how the game was coded this could prove to be a problem.

Of course saying that it cannot be fixed is a bit exaggerated, but I think the chances are rather slim that it will be fixed. (It doesn't even work with all TP versions out there).

Bear, please let us know how that works out, so we can avoid wasting money like you if it's unsuccessful. Thanks. ;)

Does anyone have any idea how long VG+ normally take to ship to the UK?

The loading of saved games etc. on the PSP is handled by the firmware and in the case of lumines this was where the flaw turned up.

There are probably firmware routines to read and write to the SD card which all games and channels call. So Nintendo can update the firmware so it first checks if it's Zelda which wants to load something and if it is then checks if it's a bad save file (horse's name too long) and if it's a bad save file then it can tell Zelda that there's an error and that's the end of that.

2-4 days usually, but sometimes they get a bit mixed up and take a few weeks.

Cheers. heres hoping for the first option for NMH, still enjoying?

Warrenty issue's, sending stuff back to canada will be a ball ache.

Also, having a pal console means you can have a browse in game and pick up some cheap 2 for £30 or something games to have a play on when you get home. Buying every game over the web has a little less magic.

I dunno,I bought my Wii at launch and after that couldn't be bothered importing another one, selling my original etc. I'm more than happy to have a PAL Wii with the Freeloader.

I also find it a bit strange how people are unwilling to import the console, but jump all over imports as soon as a disc like this becomes available.

god i would have imported a US wii ages ago if i could only find one for a reasonable price....

Yeah and this - I already had to send my Wii back to get fixed - if I'd imported it, would imagine that would have been an even bigger ball ache than it already was to get sorted

Mind you, if you have a US Wii and Freeloader, you could do that as well.
