oh balls. i use the rgb scart cable. had no idea about the red screen problem.

Hmm well iw net digging and found this

Some early TV sets with scart sockets didn't have the RGB pins connected, so the RGB scart lead acted as a composite scart. Most modern TV's now have the RGB properly connected.

On TV's with more than one scart socket you will find that only one of the scart sockets is RGB compatible. On the TV's I have owned it's normally Scart 1 but it's just a case of trail and error.

Most modern TV's have sufficient flexibility in their synchronization circuits to lock onto a 50hz or 60hz signal.

As I have already said RGB scart is the best method of connecting imported consoles to a TV in the UK. The full screen 60hz display that results is vastly superior to the letterboxed 50hz display.

SO maybe wrong scart bit, but i know the cable supplied with the Wii isnt a true scart cable (somehow) but i do remember reading it hence why i bought the scart.

It IS a standard composite cable. PAL games don't even output S-Video, a S-Video cable would be useless.

Arrived today, NMH worked no problem, but I have red screen of death as well through RGB SCART.

Edit - Using the composite I get no colour at all. Hmmm

Edit 2 - Works perfect on a newer TV through RGB SCART.

The page is shit. The method of cancelling an order is dubious, you check the items and then click on Return Items. The funny thing is if you don't complete this transaction, like many people did, myself included, the checkbox disappears on the order. I didn't complete it because I wasn't sure if it was the right way, as there was no option to select that I want to cancel my order.

I then wrote an email that I want to cancel the order because it was taking ages, no response, but my order says that it's paid and processed now. I think I'll receive two freeloaders. I just hope it gets held up at customs or that I have to sign that I received it (instead of just finding it in my inbox) so that I can refuse and not accept it.

A lot of people on the forums have similar experiences, I don't think I will ever order there again. They don't even ship the earlier orders first, which is pathetic.

Anyone got any idea if there is a way round NTSC games displaying no colour via component and in red over RGB before I go out this afternoon and buy a new telly

Edit - sorry meant composite, not component

You have tried diffrent scart slots right?

I mean way back in the Ps1 days i had a NTSC copy of FF9 that i used a swap disk to play on a pal PS1 and it just needed a scart for the colour.

What about a component cable that should work and improve the picture to some degree?

Edit: oh erm try the supplied Composite cable? are you sure youve set the wii to 60hz display and that your TV can actually display at 60hz?

Q So I imported brawl, got a freeloader now I boot it up and its in black and white?

Is there anyway to get it in full colour or did I just get pwnt?

A: Your TV probably doesn't support a 60Hz signal. If you have a component or RGB cable try using that.

    Component will work.

It seems like the games are responsible to tell the Wii what to output. This isn't unusual, as far as I remember the Dreamcast games did the same. In fact there are even tools out there to change the bootcode of Wii games to support other resolutions as well, so it's definetly the game that's responsible for the video mode that gets used.

It NMH insists on S-Video instead of RGB than that's that. Component is the same regardless of the region, so you should always be fine with that.

Aslo dont be confused into thinking that the red/white/yellow cable supplied with the Wii is a COMPONET, because its a COMPOSITE.

Thank feck! This thread was becoming confusing to read, not to mention slightly alarming, as I'd just then ordered a component cable, to be on the safe side, in case the supplied composites triggered funky visuals (as in TheBear's example) on my new games.

    Getting a new TV, eh?

Yeah, my other newer CRT works with fine for NMH so I think I'll move that into my games room and go pick up a funky new LCD for the front room, about time anyway :)

I'm looking for a new TV, too. It's annoying that it can run RGB scart (which is brilliant quality) fine, yet the best I can get on my Wii is composite, which looks fucking abysmal.

I'm looking for a new TV now, but I'm not sure what to go for.

It is a minefield buying TV's isn't it?

I know little about these things, but I saw an LG 1080p in Tesco today for £450 - Only 32 inch, but good for gaming I would think.

If you have a TV that supports component, why were you using any other type of connection with it?
Because, I never really viewed visual quality as a big deal for Wii, so I just went with what came in the box to get a picture. As such, I never really thought it worth getting any other cables for it, till now.

Also, I've just discovered that my Samsung's quite happy to display NMH through composite, till the component cable arrives. :)

Composite and Component should both the fine. RGB isn't because RGB doesn't exist in the NTSC world, that's why it could cause problems (depending on the TV's compatibility).

Composite will only be fine if your tv supports ntsc.

Ah, I recall the joys of spending £50 to get a special Gamecube component->RGB cable off eBay. It was hand-made out of two different official Gamecube AV cables. Gotta love importing.

At the risk of totally confusing matters, would the picture be any better with a Wii S-Video cable?
