I had the same problem with my crappy old TV, could only get black and white for SMBB. Fixed it though by connecting the Wii through the DVD player. Much cheaper solution than buying a new TV
Oooh good idea, I will try that, right now in fact! -

Sorry for pointing out that it was an "easter joke". Instead it's a serious matter that the new update will be on its track to disable the freeloader.
Most likely the next upgrade that comes, will ruin the freeloader. -

Registered 14 years agoAnd if you could read it stands "At the moment nothing breaks, but the next update will."
So we don't really care if 3.2E is the latest. Next update will have a big chance to fuck up the homebrew channels and the freeloader -

Registered 14 years agoThere's also minor version number that never gets shown. So far there have been 3 versions of firmware 3.2.
It appears that this update is only for US Wiis for the moment.
Anyway, the next must have game that comes along (Mario Kart, Wii Fit, Smash Brothers, some spangly new version of the Wii Menu) and wants IOS37 will put an end to Freeloader.
Which is unsurprising as Nintendo don't go after homebrew but don't bother about it either if they squash a bug that allows piracy. -

.
Almost gleefully put. :/
We shall just have to wait and see what happens. -

Registered 14 years agoNot really, if it stops development of the homebrew launcher channel it'd annoy me a bit. -
I don't understand something about the Freeloader.
Ok, so a bug in the current dashboard lets you run unsigned code by generating a fake verification hash.
But if it's as simple as that, why don't we have tons of homebrew games which we can boot off a disc? or pirated wii games which run off a burnt disc? Surely, the exact same way freeloader is working could be used to boot homebrew and pirated software unless there is more to it? -

Registered 14 years agoThere are two stages...
First the DVD is protected (the Wii asks the drive if it is original or a burnt DVD and the modchip mounted on the drive steps in and says everything's fine).
Secondly the certificate is checked by the Wii Menu (calling the routine in the firmware) and Freeloader is 'signed' using a signature which takes advantage of the firmware bug (only Nintendo is supposedly able to sign games).
So homebrew and pirated games won't run from a burnt DVD without a modchip so the Freeloader doesn't in itself open the door to mass homebrew or piracy.
They do however run from proper DVDs (which is also what Freeloader comes on). Therefore Nintendo have to close down the method Freeloader uses otherwise most games would end up on market stalls for a fiver a week later and while most people think twice before modding their console they wouldn't before buying a pirate copy.
And unfortunately homebrew software is the collateral damage. -

Registered 14 years agoWell I just got my freeloader (waiting for Naruto GNT EX 2 to arrive) and tried to test if Naruto GNT 4 (as reports said it didn't work). And as reports are reports, they are facts.
I can't say it DOESN'T really load. The freeloader works. And does what it should do.
My theory is that it's the Wii itself who causes the problem.
I see a bit of the screen in the south end of the TV but then it goes completely black (as reports reported) and it "locks" itself.
So I don't think it's the freeloader who causes the GC games to not run.
Prove me wrong because I'm always wrong xd. -

Registered 15 years agoJust so i dont make a mistake, i think my SDTV allows NTSC signal since i used to play import PS2 games using the swap magic discs a while ago.
Hopefully this should indicate i shouldnt get the red tint screen if i do purchase a freeloader and a US compatable game eventually right? -

Quick question with the whole Smash Bros thing:
I'm loading up the Freeloader - the screen goes all wobbly and a big ? appears on screen - I put in the Smash Bros disk and all seems fine. I press start but all I'm getting is a black screen. No loading or anything. :/
Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? -
...the answer is that you need to do it twice!
