    @SolidSCB

    Glad to hear mate, Google is definitely the worst thing in this kind of situation. But anyway glad that it's positive news.

    Dr Google can be a tad alarmist - good to hear that things will be well.

    Also a classic first page post there! :-)

    Glad to hear it's benign. Happy new year mate to you and your wife.

    Google is a dangerous thing at times.

    Nope, the only victim it has claimed is my soul.

    I would, in seriousness, urge anyone with a wife or girlfriend who hasn't gone in for a screening once they are eligible to get them to book themselves in immediately and make sure they go through with it. It's a 10 minute job, yeah that might be 8 minutes more than they are used to things being in there but we're lucky they can catch things super, super early.

    well, sorry to be that guy again but some of you have been immensely supportive so it's only fair....mrs hcnip had 3 mth scan results today...looks like the current line of tki meds has stopped working...the report was quite vague but there is definite progression on the liver and what appear to be a few bone mets showing up. there's also something showing up in an ovary which need investigating...she's got to change meds and have an mri soon - she's also had a blood test today to check for ovarian cancer. Bag of shite, eh? …:D

    cheers, chaps

    hard to say but the hopes we had for surgery to relieve some of the liver tumour burden are history now, they won't consider it once other lets are evident...don't know exactly what the ovary business is yet (hoping it isn't another primary) but the bone mets will be enough to knock that on the head...she's a tki responder with sutent so cabo should work for a bit as her 2nd line of treatment...the mri should make things clearer but all a bit out of the blue, if i'm honest, she's been stable for a while and it's supposed to be slow and indolent...

    2020s proving just as shit as 2019 atm...and 2018..and 2017...:D

    One of those doctors visits where you leave feeling like you’ve been punched in the stomach. It definitely sucks when now there’s multiple things to worry about, but the point of the scans is to catch these things early. But yeah, while you’re waiting for results there’s not much you can do but try and not think about it too much and hope for the best.

    Really sorry to hear the latest update drhcnip. I can only wish you and your family the best. For what it's worth I'll pray for you... It can't hurt .

    My aunt is back in hospital with her cancer, but she's an aunt, not my wife, so there's a big difference.

    cheers, pal - appreciated...when the initial tumour was found she had several churches and an army of nuns praying for her..however its done, it's a positive thought in our book and that can never hurt...

    hope your aunt improves - it's hard with any family member

    Bollocks. Sorry, @drhcnip, that's not good (like you needed me to say that).
    Wishing you both all the best / sending good vibes / anything else that might possibly help.
    Hang in there, both of you.

    thanks everyone - just been a shitter since 2017, as you know
    compounded with dad dying 3 times, then being resuscitated, on operating tables a few weeks ago from internal bleeding and other shite after his bowel cancer op a few months ago, we've had our fill of 2020 already..;)

    but hey-ho, onwards and upwards - some people didn't make it through yesterday and some won't today, at least she's still here....

    That's a really strong and positive outlook to have given the hand you're dealing with, takes a lot of courage. Can't imagine what you're going through so will just reiterate the thoughts and best wishes as others.

    @drhcnip I always hate it when this thread is updated - in case it's bad news :-( I'm really sorry to hear there's further issues. I hope things improve soon.
  • Deleted user 21 January 2020 11:05:03
    @drhcnip thanks for the thoughts. She's been told it's terminal and she's got weeks. Cancer in her neck has weakened the bone sufficiently that her neck is now broken. Mostly I'm supporting my mum as she's really upset about her sister.

    @MightyPirate

    that's shit to hear - big virtual hugs to you all...we're dreading that moment and yesterday was like another step towards it...the supporting role is hard - i'm the same with mum as well, with dad spending most of the last 6 months in

    fuck cancer and fuck adulting....;)

    @drhcnip @MightyPirate

    Sorry for your very serious situations. I hope your burden lightens.

    I wanted to share a bit of nice news myself - I had a cancer scare last year but the various tests came out safe enough. I have smaller checks coming in Feb but I think I'll be ok. My health was suboptimal for the first half of 2019 but since then I slowly seem to be returning to normal.

    I'm not sure if the thread wants gory details so I'll leave it there but yeah, health stuff is weighty.

    Prioritize sleep. Eat unprocessed food. Get any form of exercise you can. And gaming is good. Continue to ignore those who hate the hobby!

    @drhcnip I'm sorry to hear the news :( Maybe the new meds will help slow it down or something... Stay strong and hope for the best.
