Oblivion was stunning when it was released. Alpha Protocol doesn't look at all good. And Oblivion had a terrible story too. -

Yes please!
I'll send I later on tonight after I've checked it! -

There doesn't appear to be an over world like NYC (at least not I've seen) so it's more focused missions like Area 51 or Vandenburg AFB.

So far, I'm rather enjoying it, it's playing a bit like a third person Deus Ex, hopefully it'll keep that up.

At least the pad works. I find myself using m&kb less and less these days.
Apparently it does offer controller support. Shame about the AA problems but it's not a deal breaker. What's the performance like at 1080p with something like a 5850? Anyone here with a similar card playing this game?
I have 2 HD 5870s in CrossFireX mode and with 8xAA the game runs 99% of the time at 60 fps (v-sync is on by default and, by god, a UE3 game WITH a v-sync option, whatever next!!!) but there are some drops to 40 fps from time to time. Could be CrossFire related or do with having 8xAA forced on (probably the latter). It's not an amazing looking game so if your PC can run other UE3 games then it'll handle Alpha Protocol just fine.
As for the game, well I'm not that far into it so I can't really comment except to say that what I've seen so far is very uninspiring and very middle-of-the-road. The camera feels off and is resolutely locked to the back of your character making it feel rather stiff and unnatural. The animation is absolutely abysmal, it's like something from 1998. I'm currently stuck at a computer terminal hacking mini-game where I have to match two passwords but I don't understand what it is I'm supposed to do. Used that as an excuse to quit to be honest. Will return to it over the weekend to check it out properly. -

So far... meh. The stealth doesn't seem to work at all, unlike SC you don't have any indication of how close you are to being spotted, and some pretty unconvincing AI code that has guards walking around in circle on the spot doesn't help at all. Plus on my PC it has lots of micro-loading which just throws mouse control out the window at times, usually just when I need to be in control. I'll give it another bash later, but right now I need to prey to my Chris Avellone shrine to repair my faith.
I can agree with most of the stuff on this page. Laughable animation and pretty basic graphics. Textures are clear as fuck though, it has to be given that much. -

Registered 20 years agoUpgrading your stealth so you get permanent awareness seems like a necessary step, it helps a hell of a lot when you're moving around, that combined with evasion makes stealth a lot more viable.
I'm onto the final mission in Saudi and it's most certainly not without faults I'm enjoying it. There's a distinct stench of consolitis though, bodies disappear and it's certainly won't be pushing a half decent PC, especially with that AA/AF problem so you have to have it switched off!
As for hacking you have two strings of characters, they don't move in the sea of text so try to spot them quickly, the left one is moved using WASD and placed with space, the right with the mouse and left clicked. If you take your time, they move, if you take too long the alarm goes off.
Alarm panels and locked door code pads can get pretty involved and some have some really short trigger times and involve 7 circuits. At least the lock picking is fairly straight forward. -

Should do - it runs on Unreal so you should be fine. -

Great, accept xfire 5870's are not really like a 5850. :/

And what is the point of using 8xAA at 1900x1200? Why not drop down to 4xAA and get more fps. :/x2 -

Registered 15 years agoChrist, this is an absolute disaster. Woeful animation. PS2 but in HD graphics. Rag dolls from 2002. Clumsy combat. Fuck knows what's going on with the stealth. Bland, empty levels. Basic design faults like not being able to crack windows them jump through them or over cover objects. Restarting a level can make the first baddie look right at you and set of an alarm. Baddies that seem to be glued to fucking red barrels. Some of the worst, most unconvincing AI of the last 5 years. Main character is supposed to be clever, yet it written and acted as a fucking spacker.
I'm honestly trying to think of something they did right with this, but I honestly cant. -

I was about to buy AP today [one game shop was selling it a day early], but after reading this, I'm thankful that I didn't buy it. So Hunam, is it worth trying to tackle numerous ways or is there simply no reward for it? -

Gamespot has given this a 6.0 apparently.
Alpha Protocol's astounding intricacies are tarnished by bugs, clumsy gameplay mechanics, and rough production values.
