    Mos Eisley, Kandahar.

In that case: Yes and No.

They love a muslim joke in Mos Eisley. Kandahar, not so much.

Yeah muslims aren't allowed in pubs are they? Unless you invite them in, or something.

    You're thinking of vampires!

    vampirism ... ism

I thought the line was where it was visual; i.e. I can laugh at gay jokes (regardless of sexuality) but have to be slightly pious about jokes about colour of skin, disability etc.

Obviously I don't think the above, but it's what it seems to boil down to in today's society.

My advice? Just hate all ethnic groups, including your own. Equally. There's parity.

yeah they have to be invited over the threshold. and have no reflection.

plus they can only come out at night.

(Although some have taken to wearing a sort of black sheet that covers them head to toe to allow them to step out in sunlight.)

We call these ones 'day walkers'

Mostly it's just social convention. In the seventies you could tell anything from a funny to an outrageously hateful and offensive joke about women, blacks, 'micks', japs, whatever. Now there's a stigma attached to certain types of predjudice.

If it's funny and not meant in a mean-spirited way, I have no problems with the odd off-colour joke.

I think it all depends on the individual - in my office, we've got South African, Dutch, Italian, Welsh and Turkish people, as well as Muslims, Catholics, etc and we all just take the piss out of each other.

It's all in jest and we all give as good as we get. It's all good fun.

I've no idea, but it's a great word.

    EDIT:

    From wiki....

Honky is a corruption of hungy or hunky, a term which originated in the stockyards and slaughterhouses of Chicago. The term may derive from "Bohunk" (Bohemian-Hungarian), which was used to refer to central Europeans. Black workers and Hungarian workers were two of the largest ethnic groups in the Chicago meat industry. Racial and ethnic tension between the two groups led Black workers to begin calling Hungarian workers, and those perceived as Hungarian workers, hunky, perhaps in retaliation for the familiar racist epithets to which black workers were subject. The corruption 'honky' emerged shortly thereafter.

Not as offensive as the spelling in the thread title!
