I was looking for tab earlier for the new Manics song, Peeled Apples but couldn't find it. Thought it sound pretty simple so sat down and worked it out. That's the first song I've ever worked out for myself |

It's wicked. Love it. It's done by a semi-famous artist Rob Horne, and its all under the laminate. I love the 12th fret Tiki mask.
Chinster, Congrats, that's a great feeling isn't it. -

It's a Lorenzo acoustic. Nice tone according to my Dad, who has 55 years guitar playing experience under his belt.
I think i'll take his word for it!

Registered 13 years agoI learned to play the guitar to a rudimentary level about 6 years ago. Since then I've never bothered to take it further, just whipping it out every few months or so.
A quick read of this thread has inspired me to start again from scratch. Cheers. -

I've scoured the internet, but unpopular as the band are I cannot find one single link! -

Lorenzos can be quite nice first guitars, though can be off putting. I had one, and the fret's seemed awkwardly wider, and the action is quite high, so persevere. Great for developing finger strength though!

I'll have a listen when I get home, but I can't promise anything! I'm guessing lots of muting and lots of power chords. -

Registered 17 years agoSo, in an awful spot of luck, both my electric and my acoustic have developed some pretty nasty string buzz! On my acoustic (a Freshman electro-acoustic), it happened after I changed the strings, now the low E buzzes horribly, particularly around the 2nd and 3rd frets =/
I've noticed though that if I put a capo at, say, the 5th fret, there's no buzzing, the sound is totally smooth.
As for my electric (an Epiphone LP Custom), I haven't even changed the strings or anything recently, but now my A string has started buzzing. In the electric's case though, the buzzing sounds to me to be a lot closer to the bridge area of the guitar, rather than farther up the neck....
Is string buzzing something I can easily fix myself? See, I'd take them into the guitar shop, but they never fix them then and there, they always take them in for at least a week, so to be deprived of both my guitars for over a week wouldn't be good.... -
Does the LP Custom have screws above the bridge? In which case you could just adjust those until it doesn't buzz any more. That's what I did with my Casino when I changed to thicker guage strings. Just required the use of a small flat headed screwdriver and a bit of tweaking and it was fine.
There's not a lot you can do about string buzz on an acoustic, apart from altering the truss rod. You could check out this page for some info on truss rod adjustments. -

Registered 17 years agoThe LP has screws just below where the strings meet the bridge, if that's what you mean?
If so, I'll maybe have a wee go at adjusting them to see if that works.
As for the acoustic, all the truss rod stuff sounds far too complicated, so I think I may have to just give in an take the acoustic to the shop =( -

That was what I meant, yes. In theory it shouldn't be too much trouble, you want the screw to be tightened which will raise it up a fraction which should be enough, assuming it's a similar set up to my Casino. Good luck.
Oh and yeah, the truss rod stuff isn't that easy, it very much depends on the guitar, my Epiphone AJ10 is very easy needing only a screw driver and an alan key but getting it right is the complex bit, too much pressure and one is likely to fuck their guitar. So it can be a bit dangerous. -
@ElectricDemon
The acoustic, are the strings the same gauge? If they were medium, and you changed to a lighter gauge, that would give you a buzz.
If not, hold the guitar at eye level, and just see if any of the acutal frets are slightly raised, that also would cause a buzz.
I wouldn't fiddle with the rod, I don't think that would make any difference to the buzz.
One last thing to check, are all the pegs and tuners all tight, if one pops loose it can make a buzz too.
Another thing to do, is leave it. Some strings do stop buzzing when they are "played in".
I'd recommend check all above and leaving it for a week or two, playing regularly on it, and if it still buzzs, shop it. -

Registered 17 years agoI'd not mess with the truss rod tbh. I usually only get buzzes when I increase string gauges. Easiest way is to work out what string it is on, then put a piece of paper under the string under the 1st fret and play - and work your way up until you find where the buzz is. Might give you a clue as to whether you have a string that needs raising, dodgy fret, bent guitar, wrong string gauge etc... -

True that, the best way is to buy a proper book, preferably an album book.
Also a great way to learn, find an album you LOVE, then get the tabs for it.
I did that with Sea Change by Beck. -

In my defense I was about 16 at the time..gif)
It's actually probably best to try and figure things out yourself. That's a big part of training your ear. It's also a lot more satisfying. Obviously if something is heavily effected it might be a bit of a challenge. -
I got my hands on an epiphone valve junior and it gave me a real taste for a valve tone. Amazing little amp but forget about any break up of the sound at neighbour friendly levels unless hooked up to a pedal.
This made me make the jump to a blackstar ht-5, oh boy does that thing rock. I get the sweetest ac/dc tone so I learnt You Shook Me All Night Long and even managed to get the solo down pretty good.
Then I had a gay moment and learned Hysteria by Def Leppard, but enough about that. -

I just bought myself a Washburn semi-acoustic, I've been getting really lazy about practising and part of the reason is that I just don't like my cheap Strat rip-off, it doesn't stay in tune and I really dislike the action. I vastly prefer playing acoustic though it's nice to have the option of electric. The Washburn seems a great compromise, it sounds lovely and feels really nice to play. Yay! Now I just have to knuckle down and learn some more shit. -
F-hole hollow bodies for the mother fucking win! My favourite style of guitar. That's quite similar in look to my casino actually. So f-hole five! -

9 string guitars are where it's at. Now if only I could get a guitar to fart around and drill holes in and stuff I'd make myself one. -

Buy a 12 string, take the the high E A D strings off. -

I have an album by someone using a resonator, seems to come to the fore with slide blues and general blues. That's about all I know. Aren't they very expensive guitars?
@Dawkins, that's not nearly as much fun as doing it myself. -
Yeah, they're used for slide, but not just. They, well, resonate due to the metal resonator (plate like thing on the front) giving them a really distinct blues sound.
The entry price on one is not cheap (£400) and as such I don't really want to pick up any old shite. Interested to know what I should be looking for in one.
