AATG had one, it made sense so I thought I'd carry on the tradition here! :{D> Most of us know the release date of Ikaruga is April 9th now, thanks to a leak, BUT - it's happened again! This time Mr Driller Online; due next week for 800 MS points! \o/ But it's not all good news, no.... apparently, MS have turned down bullet bukkake shooters Do Don Pachi & Ketsui X for release on XBLA and the developers have instead been forced to release them as retail products. Our initial plan was to port lots of good arcade titles to XBLA. We talked to IP holders of these titles, and persuaded them. We secured these licenses, and finally talked with Microsoft. There they rejected all of our proposals saying, 'We are going to cut down faithful arcade ports.' We felt so frustrated. We wanted to show them that their decision was wrong. So we switched our two most promising projects into retail.Stupid, stupid MS! These types of games are going to be a very small niche as physical releases (we've all known the hell of trying to find obscure games with small production runs), XBLA & PSN are perfect for them. Silly sods. |

Well, when they allow arcade rereleases, everyone moans about all the arcade rereleases. Can' really win, can they? -

Yay: Do Don Pachi, Triggerheart Exelica, Ikaruga & other 'modern' arcade release many of us won't have had the chance to play as our arcades have died a death.

Nay: New Rally X, Frogger and its ilk. THOSE are the arcade games I want to see less of. -

I'll settle for Quake 1&2
I never played Quake the first time 'round. I remember reading C&VG and people like Tom Guise and that complete tool Richard Leadbetter raving about the online play. And that.
Q2 is already available on the 360. It's included in Q4 (the only reason why I bought it). It's quite good. It has coop, achievements and everything. -

Quake 4 is also a bloody awful port on the 360. Don't bother.

Registered 15 years agoWell it's all a bit up in the air, but most indies are feeling priced out be the recent royalty drop. It's a complicated issue, as there are upsides put in place to compensate for the rate drop, but basically the impression is that it's being made easier for publishers and more difficult for indies - the idea being that indies will go with the publishers instead of self-funding (destroying the meaning of being indie in the first place as you lose your IP rights etc). Things might be changing but it's hard to believe that they'll save it now the developer backlash has started. In addition, all interface changes to XBLA have worsened the service instead of improving it.
Things that need to be done to fix XBLA:
* Restore the royalty rate for indie developers.
* Stop turning down content - it's a digital service, there is no limit to "shelf space".
* Allow users to filter existing content in different ways, rate content, share rating and reviews with other users.
* Give XBLA its own blade with a front page incorporating these social features.
* Ideally also have a web portal people can access from any web browser with similar features, and the ability to purchase content to be downloaded to the XBox later. -
I'd agree with those points.
As for the royalty costs and all of that, as you say it's a bit muddled with pluses and minuses allover the place, but I'm not a dev so I have to rely on word of mouth.gif)
It's frustrating as it hosts a lot of my favourite content at the moment but they seem to be unable to stop choking the benefits of digital distribution.
