    I bought their first album based on the thread here. Took a while to warm to it, but basically loved it and it now gets regularly played. Again, based on the thread here, yesterday I bought II and pre-ordered III which I've just listened to.

    II and III are borderline shite. I should've just blown my nose on that last 20. I'll never find out if they're "growers" because I'll probably never listen to them again. Bad EG. Naughty EG! Get to your bed!

    Weird that you spent the time getting to enjoy the first album but you wouldn't give II another listen. Some of my favourite music is stuff that I really didn't like on first listen. And if I remember right, II has the awesome track Milk on it.

    It's not quite the same style but Modeselektor's Monkeytown is scientifically proven to be more fun than Moderat's stuff which I think can be a bit too introspective (blame Apparat).

    Well, I listened to II twice yesterday and it had lost a lot of what I loved about the first album (namely the varied vocal styles). The third one doubles-down on my least favourite elements, so I doubt I'll return to it. I actually couldn't listen through in one hit. :(

    I think it's a case of people who liked how their sound was evolving will get a lot from III. Anyone who _really_ loved the first one and was maybe cold on the second one might do well to skip the third. But that's entirely based on my own appreciation.

    I also like Rival Consoles (heh!) Howl album. I'd only heard the Sonne EP before, but this is similarly nice.

    I agree with this - II and III are a natural genesis from I. I don't agree with skipping III though.

    I'm genuinely shocked that you don't like at least four tracks on II though.

    Anyway, just thought I'd let those interested know there's a thread for Moderat now: http://www.eurogamer.net/forum/thread/316602

    New Perturbator album, 80s/synthwave/darkwave/whatever. Good, anyway.

    @gamecat
    I went from "pfffft, that's not at all 80s or synthwave" to clicking checkout within the space of less than a minute. Awesome sounding stuff

    @gamecat Amazing album, but his previous one was even better. Dangerous Days. I listen to Future Club at least once a day.

    Going to see him and Dan Terminus live next month, can't wait.

    @gamecat nice one, never come across Perturbator.

    Just listened to Dangerous Days and gave my speakers a workout - incredible synthy bass.

    I know it's the hipster label of choice at the moment but I'm genuinely lapping up pretty much everything Erased Tapes do.

    @GarlVinland I am somewhat jealous!

    Sort of related, didn't realise that Carpenter Brut - Turbo Killer had an official video now, suitably bonkers.

    @Dirtbox That vocal's from an old disco record by Idris Mohammad. Jamie XX based Loud Places on it last year. I can't ever recall hearing Idris Mohammad in an elevator, but at least it's not a jazz track like I was thinking.

    (that's disco, and not at all electronic, as a headsup).
  • Deleted user 10 May 2016 09:25:23
    @gamecat It's happening in London in a few weeks if you wanted to go ;)

    Carpenter Brut is also incredible. That video is one of the greatest things I've ever seen. His album 'Trilogy' is also full of brilliant songs.

    @gamecat was just about to come in and post about the righteous splendour of The Uncanny Valley. It's such a banger.

    I spent most of my holiday last year drinking cheap Spanish beer, listening to Dangerous Days and reading the Takeshi Kovacs novels. Kvlt.

    Fucking beautiful synthwave.
    @Dirtbox

    Ta for that, only just noticed your link. It's REALLY good. Lads only 20 as well. I spent most of my time wanking in my bedroom at that age while he's making this.

    JMJ has released Electronica 1 & 2 in the past few months, and they're both superb!

    A couple of solo tracks, but mainly collaborations with people like M83, Pet Shop Boys, Air, Laurie Anderson, The Orb, Edward Snowden(!) and Hans Zimmer.

    Highly recommended.

    The new Pantha Du Prince is definitely one of my favourites so far this year, which is nice after the crushing disappointment of the new Holy Fuck.

    2Square - New album by Vince Clarke and Paul Hartnoll.

    It's just over 6 quid on iTunes so couldn't resist at that price. First impressions very good, if you like Orbital you'll probably enjoy this :)
