Registered 20 years agoI was at Pavement too last night! 9/10, very good. Was a bit worried I'd be "old", but I recognised a few people....same crowd that would have been there 10 years ago, just a bit older
-
Gogol Bordell and The Bronx - 10/10 as it's one of the best gigs I've ever been to. Amazing.
Thank fuck I brought a spare t-shirt. -

Pavement, Tripod Dublin - 9/10
Took a while to get going, but when it took off it was amazing. Highlights were Grounded, Stop Breathin, Fight This Generation and a tear jerking rendition of Here. Finished with Box Elder as well which was great.
Can't fucking wait to see them again at Primavera.
Heard it was awesome alright... good venue for it too, nice size.

Not bad, good live performance from the band, pretty enregetic considerin gthe crowd was fairly laid back and not really participating much. Obviously they only really have a limited number of songs to perform, albeit they're mostly pretty good. As a band, lacking maturity but solid. 7/10 -

Saw them at a festival a few years ago and the were so good as to be almost on a par with the Flaming Lips, which was the best 'show' I've ever seen. -
That's a lofty comparison, sir!
Loads of people were there just to see The Bronx. I'm not suprised - they were pretty incredible... a truly great LA hardcore band. Gogol I've seen before but the new latin-based material really added to the show. Only one dancing girl this time though - the other was replaced with their brazilian percussionist/occasional rapper, who was mental!
Props to the crowd too. There were more people than at the gig I went to in Brixton two years ago, and it was more diverse - more girls and lots of trendy buggers this time. Too many people with bags and loads of posh types. My mates and I were worried it wouldn't kick off - but fair does, it kicked off even bigger than last time.
Really hurt this morning. Ouch. -

I kinda hate Tripod, it always seems to be too packed downstairs. But we had seats in the OAP section, and the sound was great so I was quite content.

I predict another 9/10 for Ted Leo in Whelans tonight. He'll ge great as ever, but get a minus point for doing something incredibly cringeworthy, like sing a traditional Irish song at the end of the show. -

First time seeing these guys and I didn't really know what to expect after hearing mixed reports of the new album. Totally blew me away though, loved it. Gig of the year for me so far. New tracks were awesome too. 9/10 (-1 for no Fall of Math). -

9/10 - they lose a mark for the terrible support act (Eugene) and not having kristen schaal there as advertised! -

Kind of half gig half comedy show but great fun and Dave from the TV show as support was surprisingly good. He even came on and did his rap during too many dicks on the dance floor. -

8/10 Good to hear some new Dananananaykroyd songs. The Paraffins are a must see, just for sheer stangeness. The Dirty Cuts were quite good too. -

Registered 12 years agoAbove Them/Vanilla Pod/Leagues Apart - University Library Bar, Lincoln - 8/10
I didn't catch the first band's name, but that's OK as they were terrible metalcore with clean guitar breakdowns and formless song structures. Ugh.
Leagues Apart were solid punk-rock with some nice drum and guitar work.
Vanilla Pod, although always good, have improved with age.
Above Them were simply really good.
Pretty good punk-rock show: a good atmosphere and two-pound pints made it a winner. -

Manchester Academy.
Excellent gig. I've seen her 3 times now. First as part of the NME Under The Radar tour, then her first solo gig at The Deaf Institute & tonight at The Academy. I love her album and she's got an amazing voice. Can play keyboards too. Fit as fuck too.gif)
She's back again in October at a bigger venue. You can tell she's getting more popular as she's now got video screens and some effects on stage. -

Union Chapel.
When she's with the Quantic Soul Orchestra or the Bamboos, I fucking love her. When she's with her own band, she lacks a lot musically imo. Her voice was fucking incredible, but the songs just didn't do it for me. -

Always wanted to catch them live, finally did last night. Put a huge smile on my face, not had that at a gig for long time. Very cool atmotsphere, played a good variety of songs and stuff off new album sounded good. Was mighty impressed with quality of vocals and harmonies. It was Neil Finns birthday too, and we got a massive treat at the end when Johnny Marr came on and played a few songs with them, including "please please please let me get what I want". Bliss. -

Registered 15 years agoDoes Peter Kay count as a gig? Oh well tough, it does because none other than Rick Astley supported!
He kicked the night off with his other "classics" and seemed rather peturbed the audience were not dancing. Ended on an alright medley of Manchester tunes then finally that tune, which got the crowd rocking. 3/10
Then Peter. Oh Peter, Peter, Peter. Unfortunately, I've seen him twice already and I'd say 90% of his act was old material. The song medley at the end was mildly amusing though. 4/10 -

Registered 12 years agoI'm aware of that ecosse. Paul was indeed a sad loss. Would have loved to have seen them with him playing. Nobody can replace those type of people in bands, however the new drummer is very good, and fits the band well.
Peter Kay. ha. Saw him a few years back, I'm not suprised he's doin same stuff. Bit lame considering some of the ticket prices though eh? You should have pelted him with frozen garlic bread

Registered 12 years agoCan I have the K's first? Big hero is Johnny eh. Been into smiths etc since being a kid. Saw Mozza at his peak live, but never Marr. He played a fender jazzmaster, or jaguar, and it sounded sweet. His daughter sang on a crowded house tune too. You might wanna check out 7 Worlds Collide. A neil finn project that Marr plays on. But yeah, right time right place. My mate actually slapped me on the back after "that" song in a kind of 'we did it!' fashion.
-
@TheStatics - Go and see The Cribs next time they are near you? Marr is a full-time member now.
