Part of me hopes that it isn't GTA 6.

GTA V has already sucked the lifeblood out of every corner of Rockstar. All hands on deck making DLC addons, it even caused RDR2 to slip.

They need to do something with L.A.Noire, Max Payne, Bully etc.
And if it wouldn't be too much trouble, an original IP, seeing as you haven't actually created one for over a decade.

I'm still logging in once or twice a week but only to grab whatever the Twitch Prime offer is if it interests me. Never been bothered by the supercars, but if a plane or heli is on offer I always have to have it. Quite pleased with my shiny new Nokota last week.

Regarding the grind - it's definitely, unforgivably bad at low levels, no argument here. But honestly I've never found it to be an issue once I got a few businesses. Selling one restock of coke, one of meth, one bunker and a nightclub, with vehicle cargo and VIP missions in between, does the trick if I'm saving for something. And I do like the business battles they added for the summer event (aircraft carrier to plunder?!). Also heists, even with randoms, are fine and varied and worth a couple of million.

Having said all that I am a bit bored of it. My ideal for next gen would be an extension of the map somehow, rather than just more frames and more pixels.

Now that Dan Houser has left I do wonder what GTA will be like. I do wonder if the satirical edge might change somewhat, and become a bit more generic (not saying the games were the most amazing satires ever, but there was definitely an element of that)

GTA6 is coming. That's not a franchise that's going to be left alone considering the amount of recognition it has and money it makes.

R* is all hands-on-deck for all it's major projects, which is basically just GTA and RDR. Their culture and processes are the problem, not their projects, same as CDPR (though the scale and scope is always going to be a killer).

I'd love a Max Payne 4 though. 3 was great.

GTAV is still a nice money spinner for them while GTAVI is in the oven. I'm sure they can't just abandon it, much like Sony can't just abandon the PS4 at the turn of the gen.

I'd be amazed if there isn't some kind of character/account transition into 6 Online. There will be plenty of notice whatever the plans are.

I would have almost assumed the game would have been written before he left.

I pray that GTA6 isn’t a crappy campaign tacked onto the real business of making online cash. GTA5 was meant to have proper, meaty DLC. It never appeared because they were far too busy working on an online game I have zero interest in playing. I suspect the sequel will be the same.

I don't. I think it will be worse.
Online will be front and centre.

You guys are aware RDR2 is a thing yeah?

Yeah, I find this thinking they're going to abandon single player all of a sudden very odd. The truth is they make substantial single player content and yes, micro transaction riddled multiplayer. To think they'll radically change that after sticking to the model for a while is some weird thinking. Yeah we didn't get any DLC but their single player campaigns are jammed with content.
  • Deleted user 20 October 2020 16:13:34
6 will likely have a substantial single player mode, but it's not unfeasible they'll move away from that for 7. RDR2 would definitely have been in design and production before GTAV launched, and GTA6 will probably have entered design immediately after V launched (if not before).

Design and development cycles being what they it's still quite feasible that 7 might be more heavily multiplayer focused. Probably won't immediately eject SP, but I can imagine a heavier focus on MP.

But they lean heavily on cinematic games, that's their M.O., I sincerely doubt they're going to throw it to the wayside. Yeah they'll make a much deeper multiplayer but not at the expense of the single player. The fact that they spend absolutely ages making one game speaks to that.

With any luck R* consider single player as the entry drug to MP so won't kill it off for that reason alone.

In fairness, GTA5 (and RDR2, which I for some reason really can't get into even though its production values are off the charts) was worth it for the single player content alone, the online bit to me was always just an optional extra thankfully.

Again RDR2 showed a huge commitment to SP experience even in the face of an online cash cow in GTAV. If anything RDR2 was far bigger and longer than it needed to be to demonstrate that commitment. It may even have been too long and big.

Maybe they will change strategy but an assumption they will be that cynical when they’ve already shown if anything they’re overly committed to SP seems weird.

Another angle is if GTAVI was going to be a slim SP and a bunch of MP it would probably be ready to announce by now. My guess it will be absolutely epic SP.

I'm certain there's plenty of people like me who only ever play the single player campaigns in games. And no doubt most if not all games companies have drilled down into the specifics in their own games' metrics to confirm that single player is still massively important to their game's success, all at the planning stage.

I think compared to where we before when companies like EA were heralding the death of the single player campaign, the sales of games like Assassins Creed, Jedi Fallen Order, Last of Us 2, God of War and Red Dead 2have shown how untrue this is.

Every time there's a front page article about GTA Online I'm reminded that my experience of the economy in that game just isn't the same as a lot of people's, judging by the top comments.

So the new heist requires 2.2 million in-game dollars, or 3 million if you don't already have an office or motorcycle club. Sure that's a decent grind if you're starting from literally nothing. But given how long this game's been around and how many concurrent players it still has, surely they're assuming that most players either have that amount saved up already, or can get it by doing, gosh, a single decent Casino heist (3-4 hours including prep, and that's as a solo player). And it's not even like the 2.2mil only gets you entry to the heist, you get a whole new service-type vehicle with (paid obviously) enhancements to mess around with. Some people spend nearly twice that on a single new in-game car the week it comes out (hello Open Wheel racing).

Anyway I know it shouldn't get to me but if your impressions of the game were purely from front page comments you wouldn't be getting a true picture of what it's like if you're a regular player.

Having said all that I've not done the heist or even bought the sub yet- I can probably wait for a discount because I'm not playing as often as I used. But I'm very pleased it can be done solo, didn't realise that, so I'll definitely check it out at some point

I had 3mil on me last I was on, this year I barely played it online so will probably wait for the Twitch Prime bonus to give it to me.

@KD Yeah I've got enough for the sub already and I haven't been grinding, that's just from doing the odd bunker or nightclub sale between messing around, logging in about once a week. Haven't bought anything since whenever the Nokota was discounted- but I am tempted by some of the things from this update (eg. the Toreador is meant to be even more of an Oppressor MKII beater than the Stromberg??).

But again, can wait for a discount!
