Not really. It's the same situation. The reason for the yanked features was because of the rushed porting process in order to hit the console launch. Which would make it even harder for R* to produce a more stable port with everything intact.

It would depend on how long ago they started a port and when they got the dev kits. If they started this year, that would be pushing it.

The point is, the likes of EA and 2K had to cut features from those sports games in order to rush a port out with improved graphics, framerate, etc.

Of course R* wouldn't gimp a next gen version on features (I never said they would), which is where my doubts lie with regards to a rushed port developed to a strict timescale being more stable than the source versions. Remember, the PC port of GTA4 wasn't rushed out a mere 2 months after the console versions.

Again, it depends on if it's a rushed port or not.

I would be money that Rockstar will only talk about the PS3/360 version of the game before launch, refusing to comment or denying anything to do with a PS4/XBone/PC version of the game. They will continue to say nothing about any other versions of the game for till about this time next year when they'll announce 'enhanced' versions for the PS4 and XBone and if we're lucky PC.

    Why?

Because they want to make money and they'd rather you bought the game at launch on the current generation and then again on next-gen than decided to wait for a next-gen release.
    Two words: San Andreas.

We never got a 360/PS3 version of that, did we?
Only a download re-release for GoD and PSN, which I think is the best anyone can hope for on the next-gen consoles as well.

If the dilemma over whether to buy current gen GTA5 versus next gen GTA5 that Ecu hinted, were to have any real relevence, then it'd have to be a launch window release. Otherwise there would be no reason not to get the 360/PS3 version. And to be a launch window release then, port development time notwithstanding, it may have had to be rushed.

Saying all that though, I don't think there will be an X1/PS4 version anyway, at least not within the next 12 months. Even though, like Ecu, I'd love a next gen version to go along with my shiny new console.

GTA: San Andreas launched right before the 360 and still managed to set sales records, remember.

GTA: SA came out over a full year before the 360! Whereas V will be out a couple of months before the next-gen consoles most likely release.

I reckon there will be an updated edition on the new consoles sometime next year.

I thought both the 360 and SA came out towards the tail end of 2005?

edit: My mistake. Wikipedia says SA came out Oct'04. It was the Xbox 1/PC version that came out in '05. I guess I missed out at launch!

Who says they would have "rush" next gen ports? Remember the 360/PS3 got delayed. I'm sure they have other teams working on next gen versions just like they do with PC versions.

I imagine they'll have all man power on getting the console versions out first. Once the dust settles with their launch, and the staff have taken a small vacation, work will start on porting to PC and next gen consoles for release next year sometime.

Again, it was an observation based on a next gen launch window release. I never suggested they would have to rush it for a coinciding PC release or an autumn/winter '14 date.

Oh I see you were talking launch, yeah it won't come launch anyway. I've said before and it's been said in press and by analysts safe money is on an announcement at least by the end of the year and March/April release. That will 99% likely be the pattern for PC and if next gen versions are actually coming at all that's likely when you'll see them to.

See you console folk don't know the Rockstar game we PC guys do, they have not said "no" they have said "we are concentrating on 360/PS3 for now". Next gen versions are coming :)

    I think he meant:

" Hoping they are just trying to double dip and to be honest I really don't mind buying GTA V twice, [first] on PS3 [and] then a next gen version to see any differences and improvements. "

What makes a Next gen version of GTA V not only possible, but almost a given 6 months after the launch of the 360/PS3 versions, is the PC version, and the new consoles' x86-based architecture.

There WILL most likely be a PC version, as there's always a PC version. In this coming generation, the PC version of any game gifts you an easy PS4 / Xbox One game, as developing a game for an average PC means that it'll run just great on the new consoles with a bit of optimisation.

We need only wait and see, really. I'll be buying the best version out of the 360 and PS3 games, and then watching and waiting for a PS4 version.
