I wasn't being racist, just wondering. I've just never heard of a white one. |

Good to see the C's take it, hopefully I'll be able to watch the highlights on the nba or espn's site. Been having trouble the last few games :<
Also, what's up with those ads on eg? They keep lagging me out when I've got multiple windows open, annoying shit

Spurs have been screwed in both close games, arguably, Bos/Det series hasn't been too bad. If anything, the refs were slightly more on Det's side last night, one obvious that-was-never-a-flagrant call that went against Boston sticks in the mind.
A lot of talk about the referees manufacturing a Lakers/Celtics final any way they can. -

Registered 18 years agoHaven't been able to watch this game as closely as I'm working on something else atm, but every time I look up the Spurs are making a basket. Except for, bizarrely, a stretch while Pau, Odom and Kobe were all sitting down. Needs to be at least what it is now (a 13 point lead) at half time though. -

Registered 17 years agoAye. I thought the Celtics were superb throughout that series. Kobe rarely got a look in.
Pierce, Garnett and Allen all did what you want your big players to do and I thought Rajon Rondo really impressed too. All in all very happy as I can;t stand the Lakers!

It was a tough one for me, as a Nets fan I despise the Celtics, but then of course I resent the Lakers.
I was hoping the referee would win. -

Registered 17 years agoAye. As a Raptors fan I should really go for the West Coast option there, unfortunately the Lakers do make it difficult. -
The Sonics used to have an amazing team. Who was that guy who got hooked on coke and got fat? He used to be fantastic. Shaun someone? -

He was awesome. As was Detlef Schrempf even though he didn't look like a sportsman whatsoever.gif)
Edit: Bah! 18 seonds! -
That's the one. I used to be so into bball until the NBA decided they hated Western Canada

Wasn't Jason Kidd there for a while or am I imagining that? -

Registered 17 years agoActually I think I was. It was that other little bald white point guard possibly called Jason. -
You're imagining it. He went Mavs / Suns / Nets / Mavs.
Biggest claim to fame that we have in basketball is being Steve Nash's birthplace
-
Oh, you prolly mean Jason 'white chocolate' Williams.
Before Razz gets here, Jason Kidd isn't white.... -

He was quite good. As was Mike Bibby and Shareef Abdur-Raheem from what I can remember. -

So, favourite all-time players?
Mine is Dr. J. From the ABA era. Other than that, in recent times, I loved the way Kenyon Martin played (for the Nets). Something about aggressive defense that seems so appealing to me. Probably because I am so bad at it. -

Registered 17 years agoIn his hey-day (when I was in Toronto) Vince Carter was absolutely, unbelievably, mind-bogglingly (thinking back to when he dunked over the head of that French player in the Olympics) awesome. Then he went to the Nets and turned shit.
Other than that I always loved Hakeem 'The Dream' Olajuwon and Clyde 'The Glide' Drexler, as I've always liked the Rockets too.
These days it seems to lack the true star players of old but I think Dwayne Wade is a great player. -

Seriously? Kobe, LeBron, Yao? I think (and I think it's generally considered) that the NBA is in a great spot right now for having high profile, marketable stars.

Registered 17 years agoHonestly, the NBA is at an all time low these days. It's not far off the NHL as far as viewing figures go in the US these days, and it suffers from a problem that most sports do at the moment, but that just seems most prononced in the NBA, of over paid, pretentious, moaning players.
It's all combined to really put the public off the sport and they need to change something (particularly the hiring of players from High School) before public confindence is restored.
Plus, in my opinion the star players of this day and age do not in any way whatsoever compare to the players (plus more) that I mentioned above. -

Registered 18 years agoWell, they have changed that (players going straight into the NBA from High School), but now face another potential problem of High School players going to Europe to play pro ball instead of going to college.
Viewing figures in the US are nowhere near as significant as they were, either way - basketball is becoming a global game, this will never be more obvious than when we get to the Olympics.
No-one ever thinks that the players of today measure up to the greats of the past, it wouldn't be worth watching sport if we didn't have such fond memories of the players we grew up with, but the fact is that in every sport the level of ability is increasing across the board. That can manifest itself in one of two ways, either with general levels of competition being so high that it's harder for individuals to stand out, or with one or more players being so good that they set new standards in their discipline. Kobe and LeBron, as only the two most obvious examples, would have been mammoth players in any era. -
Karl Malone was one of the greatest Power Forwards that ever lived but he always came up small in the playoffs/Finals. That is why the Jazz lost back-to-back in 1997-1998. MJ also had something to do with it ofcourse
