Anyone bought a bed online before? I seem to be having trouble finding any place decent. Or any place that looks decent. I'm after a superking oak frame... |

Registered 16 years agoReasonably priced beds can be found here. I've used them before and the bed is still going strong eight or nine years later.
I'd probably suggest buying a decent mattress mind - mine is sagging in the middle and the springs go "Pong!" if I move around. -

Registered 18 years agoA matress shouldn't be too tough, there's a local place that can get me one. But the choice of frames ain't great. -

but you need to actually try it out before buying. They recommend spending at least 5minutes lying on a mattress before you buy it.
Its got to be the right firmness, right thickness, right type of springs etc
otherwise you'll get backache -

Registered 16 years agoIkea must be the best bet and they have some great beds especially if you buy the extra mattress pads.
Didn't want to get up this morning. -

Registered 16 years agoI bought one online from argos. They brought the bedframe 2 weeks after I ordered it and the matress came a month after.
Thus ends my traditional tale of argos woe...
But, yes, if you want a fancy bed frame, dont skimp on the matress because of it. I would rather have a good matress on the floor than a crap one in a nice frame. -

Right... as I said it's a local place, so I can try it before I buy. I just need help with the frame.

I'm thinking of spending about a grand all in, so I'm not exactly skimping. -

Registered 17 years agoMy dad's advice: Never get cheap beds or shoes 'cos you'll spend most of your life in one or other of them.
He also supports Spurs so he's by no means infallible

Registered 18 years agoNext bed I get, I'm spending a grand on the mattress alone imo. Kipped at a friends who had done the same and it was ace. Well worth the cash. -

I don't skimp on beds at all, as w00t snr says, you spend a lot of time in the thing!
I don't generally skimp on shoes either! Although I tend to buy 2 pairs at half the price now and rotate them.

IKEA?
My mate at work just bought one from IKEA, a kingsize bed currently on offer for only £100... was something like £300 originally. He said they have some good beds, but (lol)... he told me he'd gone for this £100 bed because him and his girlfriend have broken two beds since the start of the year. I think they would be better off buying an expensive oak one that can take whatever it is they are doing to each other. -

Registered 20 years agoJust ordered a new bed from the bed shop round the corner. We looked at IKEA beds, but fancied a solid oak one.
We're currently sticking with the same mattress that we have at the mo.
Previous bed was one I made myself. It was basically four planks on their edges in a sort of rectangular shape with the ends sticking out, and then planks screwed across as slats.
It was great, but it squeaks a lot when I'm on the job and really going for it!

Registered 16 years agoThe company I bought my bed from online were a bit of a disaster. Waited a month, only part of the bed frame arrived and the wrong mattress. Waited another month some more bits arrived for the bed, wrong again. Correct mattress arrived after 8 weeks and the bed took a total of 4 months to get to us. The plus side of it was they never collected the first mattress. I wouldn't recommend them.
As far as mattresses go checking them in the shop really means nothing. We bought a top of the range latex mattress after trying it in a shop, woooooah incredibly comfortable. Got it home and after the first night my wife had incredible back ache. It took 3 weeks before she adapted to the damn thing. Absolutely amazing now though. -

Hmmm
The cost of beds and a bed frame is fucking crazy.
Okay you spend just under half your life in bed but jesus me and teh mrs spent shed loads ona king size bed and bed frame from John lewis.
Then not to mention the frigging bedding cost a fortune as well. I hate being a grown up and having to spend my hard earned cash on things that you cant plug in. -

Registered 18 years agoI'd go for IKEA. Their beds are pretty much their best product, if you ask me. Great price/preformance. At least that goes for the matresses. -
I'd sleep on it before making any rash decisions.
