We bought a £1200 bed (Hypnos) from a Dreams store 8 years ago. Best thing ever.

Best bit was when we decided we wanted a king-size width, but standard size length bed, and were told that they would make the bed and the mattress whatever size we wanted.

I'm fucking dreading moving back into rented accommodation again in July. My bed at my folks house is just right and I know i'm going to get some horrible lumpy cunting thing.

I used to work for a national bed company before it went under (SleepDepotcoughcough) and although I never worked in the stores I picked up loads of stuff.

    1) Cheap frames aren't too bad for what you get.
    2) Cheap mattresses are terrible. You want to be spending most of your money on the mattress. Above a certain price it really just comes down to preference so find out whether you prefer a hard, medium of soft mattress.

I have a latex luxury mattress on a sprung edge divan and its just right for me. Latex has the benefit of not absorbing too much heat, so if you dont like getting too hot then go that way. Pocket sprung mattresses are also pretty sweet.

    3) Don't bitch about the cost of delivery. Having been trapped in a small lift for 20 mins with a super king size memory foam monstrosity I know this only too well. It nearly ate me.

    4) Get a mattress protector. Imagine pouring litres and litres of sweat into your mattress over 10 years. Yuk.

Necrobump - anyone have any strong opinions on the online only mattresses that seem to have sprung up recently? Simba/Casper etc. We're looking to buy a new one and the Simba in particular seems to have really good reviews, and is just about in budget.

Sadly my broadband isn't reliable enough for an online-only mattress.

    What?

If it helps, Otty sell a mattress similar to Simba (pocket springs and memory foam) but they're a good chunk cheaper. Same 100 night trial.

I haven't used either of them, I only know as I've been looking at a new mattress myself the last couple of weeks.

https://otty.com/simba/ for a direct bias comparison.

We got a Leesa on Black Friday figuring with the 100 day return we had nothing to lose. We kept it in the end as it is really comfortable.

Do they!? I somehow missed that - cheers, will definitely go in and try.

Appreciate the other recommendations too, I'll be looking into them. Trying not to get carried away and only buy what we need but on the other hand I feel like it's pretty much the most important piece of furniture in the house so don't want to cheap out and regret it.

Estate agent signs under a cheap, thin and shitty mattress will help stop it sagging between the slats apparently. And they said I’d never learn anything from a gaming forum
