We were on £26pm for 100mb which I didn't think was too bad. Its since gone up to £42pm in January now we're out of contract but as we're moving to an area with no Virgin coverage in a few weeks we'll be cancelling soon anyway, which I'm looking forward to.
That's the exact same boat I'm in. Got the 100mb fibre on an introductory deal for £24/mth first year, then £42/mth second year onwards.

Still, at £42/mth I was happy-ish with the contract that I entered into with Virgin Media.

... but now they've inexplicably moved the goalposts, and before my first year is even up they've announced they're increasing my second year payments to £45.50/mth.

Okay, it's only a £3.50/mth increase, but it's the principle of it I don't like. They should honour the contract I signed up to.

Additionally, with what's become an essential household utility, broadband shouldn't ever be increasing in price beyond inflation. It should be decreasing if anything.

@Zerobob Exactly, the mid contract price rises are bollocks. As someone else said its just the fact that you have to play the same stupid game with them every year - we've been with them for 3 years and every renewal I ring up, pretend I'm cancelling, they pretend they can't do any better and then we agree on the same price as last year. Hoping some of the openreach providers are better once we're in our new place.

Virgin are by far the worst for price rises and abusing customer loyalty.

Sky are OK, though. I just recontracted with them and they will give you money off and honour any current discounts they have going on rather than only giving them to new customers.

I do wonder if Virgindo it because they know you are generally stuck on their network, whereas sky know you can fuck off to plusnet /bt/anyone.
Iím just coming out of contract on virgin and itís going up 15 quid a month. Will give them a call but as far as I know I havenít got a genuine alternative unless I want to go down to 5mb or something shit.

@Knighty, exactly, virgin only reduced our bill mid contract because Vodafone have laid their fibre in our street.

    Now they have competition

    I'll try again.

I've cancelled the contract. The best I could get was 74 a month, better than 90, but still.

So fuck them, way to go in not giving a fuck about trying to retain a customer of some 10 years...

And, as @trowel pointed out. The next day I got a txt message from 'Alan' about why I have cancelled and to contact him on a mobile number.

It took 2 days to try to contact them btw, 2 hour waiting times, then dropped calls, or just silence, etc Utterly shit customer service.

Anyways. My partner has signed a new contract with them. Pretty much the same package, paying just 37 a month for 18 months, saving us around 700 over the course of the contract.

    Go figure.

@eleven63 That's something I've considered doing and getting the wife to sign up as a new customer but apparently VM don't much like people doing that to save money. I think they expect people to wait at least 3 months last time I looked. Be interested to know if they contact you or not in.

When I cancelled they asked if they could get a Ďretention specialistí to call me to see if they could persuade me to stay. I was happy for them to because the primary reason was cost but to start the month notice period anyway.

Six weeks later, I was two weeks into a new sky contract and an Alan phoned. The guy was actually pissed off with *me* for wasting his time requesting a call back when I was going to leave anyway. They donít give a fuck about you.

@Nitrous Well, the cancellation is confirmed, and the new contract is also confirmed.

Same address, obviously. We are not married, don't know if that makes a difference?

I called Virgin Media tonight as my dad's old deal ran out ages ago so the current bill is 125 a month plus telephone calls so not exactly cheap. He has (and watches) all the football packages which bumps the price up.
Rentention line would only offer £116 per month on the deal that for new customers is £84.99 a month, I explained that I knew they couldn't offer the same deal but thought they could come closer than that. Nope, that's it, she then offered to connect me to the dept above her which could maybe offer a few pounds extra off but the transfer didn't work so I got cut off.

So, I was thinking of cancelling and then rejoining later, for new customers they have 90 quid deals with full-fat everything, extra boxes etc. Dad has a dodgy Chromecast box that the guy upstairs sorted for him which he uses just for any football match that's internet only or whatever.
How long would we have to wait after cancellation before re-joining?

Dad is on a ground floor flat and don't think the dish can get the signal unless put higher up the building and ran down, not sure if they would send someone out to check.

Any idea how the quality is? I've only heard back things about Now TV.

It nothing to write home about but you can buy a Ďboostí to top up the bit rate and the resolution to 1080p, I think. She doesnít really care, though. She old.

I'll get in touch with them, dad's been spoiled recently with a 55" LG CX and watching BT Sport 4K UHD, benefit of proper Sky would be more 4K Sport.

I think it's normally 90 days if someone else in the same address is rejoining after services have been cancelled.

Highly recommend just cancelling as a way to negotiate - the retentions team always call within a few days with better offers than anyone else you speak to can offer. If you get cold feet you can always cancel the cancellation inside the 30 day notice period - just say Sky can't install on the date originally scheduled and you need services a bit longer, and theyll probably offer you something.

Basically, it's not until you look serious about leaving that they'll treat you seriously.

    That's great advice, thanks.
