Registered 20 years agoYeah Razz - OpticalExpress seem to be absolutely fine, but once you stack up the decent treatment options, they come out at about a grand an eye, same as everyone else... -

Razz, if i can sort out that £400 off then it's comin your way. Like i said, it's costim em £1395 for both eyes and it seems just fine. -

Registered 14 years agoJust remember that a good clean eyepatch is sexy.
(Maybe I'm just weird)
It ceases to be sexy if you have a patch over both eyes...

For a decent procedure, yeah - somewhere between 800 and 1200 per eye. There are lower-cost ones down around 400 quid per eye, but they're a bit bargain basement - they don't include any of the fancy stuff like anaesthesia or clean instruments, and they're generally performed by half-baked Lithuanian nurses.
Fixed for horrifyingness. -

How much is it these days? Still a grand per eye?
Depends on your prescription and the place you get it done at. Mine was a bit more but only because I had it done at Moorfields with the top surgeon there and I had a horrendous prescription.
There's no way in hell I would have touched a lot of other places because my eyes are probably the most important sense to me and I didn't want to risk going to some dodgy place with old equipment who might have f*cked my eyes up. -
Guess who's back lol
i shouldn't even be on here, or watchin start trek, or downloading the resi 5 trailer off psn but i am.gif)
Here's what happened. I lay down, and they numbed my eyes. told me to close my eyes and they wiped my eyelids. then they fuckin used sellotape or some shit lol to keep my eyes open. applied some more numbing agent, then dude took out the blade and it was small. and i saw him slice the surface but it was sooooo quick and painless. then the laser bit, as charm said, just kept my eye fixated on the red beam. and then that smell, fuckin horried. i swear i can smell it now. nasty. after 15 mins the whole thing was done.
It didn't hurt but it wasn't a nice experience being awake and watching em do all that shit.
he did the right eye first and once done, i honestly thought there was gonna be a complication and i started shittin it thinkin "i was only jokin about being like big boss i don't really wanna lose an eye" and "hope to fuck the power doesn't go out".
it's been three hours since, and i've got the misty eye/morning fog thing but i can actually see.
the morning fog should hopefully clear up tomorrow.
here's the fucked up bit (like there wasn't one already lol) i now have three types of eye drops to apply. i got anti biotics to apply every two hours. something else called fred porte, i gotta do one drop every hour then one drop every two hours starting tomorrow and some other shit called refresher which is one drop every two hours.
the anti biotics and refresh i'm to use for one week.
the other thing for like a month or maybe more...? i can't recall i'll ask em tomorrow.
they've advised when i go out for the next seven days, to wear sun glasses.
i have to go there back tomorrow cause they also implanted some contact lenses and they need to be taken out.
omg, they've given me these plastic shits to cover my eyes. i'm to tape em (i kid u not) for whenever i go to sleep so as to brush my eye against anything.
i have to watch water. i can have showers and that but gotta be careful not to get any water in.
Razz, the fuckers gave me £100 off for anyone to use that i recommend. if u want it, let me know.
to sum up; longest 15 mins ever. pain free but seeing everything happen wasn't a nice experience.
and yeah, my eyes were blood shot to fuck but it's starting to clear up. -

Registered 17 years agoInteresting.. Did they say anything about how long it'll last, whether your eyesight can continue to deteriorate, increased risks or anything?
I'm sick of contacts and glasses so would love to see without them. -
even after treatment, the eye can still age and deteriorate but i'm lookin at a good 20 years plus till that happens (and i'm only 24).
i'm putting the drops in my eyes and i can taste em at the back of my mouth
. i've drank so much OJ -
and that burning smell, i can still smell it
that smell is eye meat -

Whole idea of this horrifies me... but I have issues when it comes to eyes.
Eyes shouldnt be gone near, ever!
I like glasses anyways, they suit me. Thats what I've been told anyways. Plus it detracts from that massive spot on my nose. -

Me too. Having just got contacts recently has made me seriously consider this. But the eyeball slicing sounds a bit Dali :/
What I really want is the upgrade though. -

Registered 15 years agoYeah, they cut a flap into each eyeball and fold it open so they can laser underneath. Afaik, the flap actually stays loose and never really grows back on completely, it just sticks there. You can actually dislodge it if you bump your eye on something (airbag for example).
Then again, most people apparently never experience any problems with that. -

yep, that's what they said too. but no swimming goggles. just gonna be real safe when i have a shower etc.
the blood shot's gone.gif)
I can actually see but i don't feel like it's now my natural vision cause the contact lens they put in there. I'm sure once they remove those suckers and i'm seeing everything without anything in my eye, i'll be satsified.
espy, i don't think that's the case. i was told one time that the eye is a self cleaning organ. so i would imagine that it'll sort itself out. fuck it, i'll find out today when i go back there. if it turns out you're right then i'll owe u a cookie... and possibly a jaffa.gif)
sucks if it never actually heals tho

Registered 19 years agoThis is really interesting as I've been thinking about this for a while now. Slightly disturbed to find they actually use a knife to cut your eye, and that it might not ever properly heal... -

Registered 15 years agoOk, from German Wikipedia about LASIK, quickly translated by myself. Don't know if this applies to other lasering variants or even how statistically significant this is, as the English article doesn't mention it at all.
"The flap is held down mainly by adhesive forces. It is still possible to lift up the flap even after seven years, however usually it is very stable. Dislocation of the flap is rare in normal life (with contact lenses, rubbing your eyes), but can sometimes happen with sports accidents (ball to the eye) or with airbag deployment."
I wouldn't really worry about that unless your a professional athlete in a contact sport.
Hope I didn't scare you or anything, that really wasn't my intention.gif)
I'd actually like to get my eyes lasered, but they can't do it for my eyes yet (-13D), don't know if they ever will. So hey, I hope it all goes well for you
Good eyesight really is worth so much. -
