Having never played a MGS game before, it was with a little bit of dread i started this game. But as a PS3 owner, it is apparently part of the lore, to play this game.

I went into this feeling a little put of by all the reviews and previews i read - Im not much of a "cut scene" gamer. The fierce defence of the games by almost any awner of a PS3 was likewise a turn off.

I have only finished act 1 of MGS4 by now, but i feel relatively sure that im going to finish this game. Much to my own surprice, i really like it - even the crasy amount of cut scenes. The gameplay is ok, and all the crasy stuff happening is facinating

I was worried that the story element would be lost on me, but so far im good.

Anyone else out there without any previous MGS experience Jumped in ? care to share your thoughts ?

PS: Snakes ass is really big and the shit jokes get a bit tiresome

Sounds similar to my thoughts on MGS 2. Played it having never played MGS 1.

Despite the crapload of (mostly crap) cutscenes there is always some excellent gameplay in this series.

    Havent played MGS 4. Yet.

I've never really understood the appeal of stealth games full stop - might as well release Advanced Sponsored Silence Simulator ("Amazing arcade action!!" - David Darling)

However, I played through 2/3 of MGS on the Cube before something like Pikmin came along and distracted me, but I was flicking through the CVG MGS special in the shop the other day and did develop the urge to dig it out again.

I have owned MGS1 (GC), MGS2 (Xbox), MGS3 (PS2) and Portable Ops, never got past the first act or level on any of them, I hope this will change MGS4.

Otherwise it will be just Mehtal Gear Solid.

Why the hell do you keep buying them?

Edit Not trolling, just curious. Sounds like me and racing games. Despite despising them I still end up picking one every now and then on the strength of reviews. End up hating it and still pick another one up a few months down the line for the same reason.

Ok Gamecube nothing else out at the time.

Xbox dirt cheap £5 I think

PS2 wanted the best games everyone raves it about thought I would try it.

Portable Ops was trading in my DS for a PSP again my mates raved, it was the only decent game (last choice though) left.

MGS4 - What else is there to play on the PS3 at the moment that is supposedly good.

I've still got my MSX. ^_^ It's a Toshiba one. I didn't have the floppy disk drive for it so I couldn't play MG1 on it. :( So I had to wait for the NES version. BAh!

good grief not that old ps3 has no games chesnut again! it dont work anymore, anyway mgs is certainly not to all tastes but for creating atmosphere and attention to detail its second to none, mgs4 has so far impressed me a lot and i even enjoy the cut scenes, im not new to mgs but have only previously played mgs2

so have we decided if this is any crack to someone who has never played MGS before?

Im not sure to get it? I always got the impression this game was about hiding a lot, if so i aint sure me and this game will get along.

    I like blowing shit up

Haven;t got that far through but the training has an RPG which I'm guessing will feature later on. And stingers have played a part in previous games.
Did not notice anty training missions - is that a separate choice in the menu ?

    COD4 - got
Guitar 3 - had, got the 360 version it is better.
    motorstorm - don't like
resistance - alright, traded it for rock band.

I never said there were no games just nothing being released at the moment.

It's called Firing Range or Shooting Range or something like that. It's not that good really - just the chance to get used to controlling guns and shooting things. The only reason I tried it is the manual mentions it is a good idea to do before trying the real thing. Wouldn't have missed it at all tbh.

Do you still have to do that thing where you hold the square button halfway down to draw a gun but not fire it? Inspired design in MGS2, that.

I should make a start on this. I wanted to sort out the online stuff first, the torrent download update went on for 2hrs then stopped. The server one took 30 seconds :(

    How long is the intro?
  • Deleted user 12 June 2008 22:53:10
Bollox knew I shouldn't have watched Graham Norton. I will save it for tomorrow night now I think.

it was the first game ever, I was too dumb to do the first mission in my first attempt. After watching the intro five times and then soccer i only tried it once, I was sneaking around very good, and could handle most of the controls, but I wasn't sure what I had to do, so after sneaking around by all these guards, trowing Molotovs at that Piranha-tank, I was seen and killed.

I love it, I really do, I just need to get more into it...............

so I felt like a newbie not being one..............
