What do we reckon? Bullshit or not? Seems reasonable for Nikon to want a "pro-sumer" full-frame model out there given the imminent update to the 5D. |
D700 on the horizon?

If it's true, and it's as good with noise as the D3 is, I'll be very glad I didn't splurge a stupid amount of cash on either a D3 or a D300 to replace my D200.
Odd choice for the numbering system though. What's wrong with D400? -
Some Nikon official guy was hinting at this. The next Nikon is the D3X (this is confirmed I think) then the D3 will get moved into a prosumer body, which everyone assumed would be the D400 but I guess it’s the D700. Eventually they’ll do a D90 type thing as well which will be the equivalent to the Canon D5.
That’s the one I’m waiting for… -

As withy Canon. -
Spose so. Also mirrors the greatness of the D70 when it first arrived on the scene I guess. Really hope it's for real. Great mock-up if it isn't. -
Why would they go full frame? Apart from the noise. Now everyone's invested in DX lenses! -

Yeah, no doubt they’ll do a D400 as well – not full frame but still an upgrade on the D300. -

DX lenses work on full frame Nikon cameras, unlike nasty Canon
-
Uh!?? How?? -

The D3 has a DX mode, it just doesn’t use the whole sensor. So yeah, you lose the benefit mostly of the full frame camera, but at least all your lenses aren’t obsolete. -

I'd have thought the D90 will definitely be DX and will likely compete with the 450D/40D

The 5Ds (whenever it's announced) will probably line up against this D700, seeing as they're both full-frame. They'll likely be the best part of £2000 body-only. -

Yep, they crop the sensor - you end up with about 6 megapixels, I think. -

Yeah, probably. Eventually they’ll do a full frame at the around a grand mark though, and like I say, that’s the one I’d probably be most interested in. Hopefully by then I’ll be good enough (and rich enough) to justify getting it. -

Bah, what's the point then? :/ Might just as well stick with my D70.

I think it’s a huge plus point myself. Of course if you got a D3 then you’d want to use FX lenses on it, but not having to immediately replace your entire lens collection is surely a good thing? Especially if you have to sell your current body to upgrade… -
This is true, otto. I just want a body that has the fantastic noiselessness of the D3. -

D3 sensor noise beats the crap out of the Canons (to date) which is why I want a D3 sensor in a lower priced body. Plus I find Canons weird to hold and don't like their menu screens or the layout of their buttons. Not criticising, it's just a taste thing. Nikons feel exactly right in my hand. -

Registered 17 years agoYeah, not knocking the D3, just sticking the old Canon oar in again seeing as now 90% of the forum has gone to the Nikon side of the fence

Ah right. Really? Loads of people have Canons on here though. -

Always seems the opposite has the numbers; I always thought the Canonites were in a majority.
-
lol nothing to do with the fact that we're spoilt for choice, then
-
too many D's in this thread -
Those scans are 90% definitely real btw. Was just reading some zoomed-in shots and the copy has clearly been professionally written. -
