    never mind eh?

Portuguese police are to drop their investigation into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann, it was reported today.

Two local newspapers said a lack of evidence had forced officers to abandon the case nearly 14 months after the three-year-old went missing.

The Correio da Manha paper claimed sources within Portugal's judicial police said they did "not have sufficient evidence to allow formal charges to be brought against the McCanns in the disappearance of their daughter".

but my bet is still on them killing her.

Was in Praia Da Luz a couple of weeks ago. We expected the place to be pretty quiet with hardly any kids around, especially as we were with Mark Warner Holidays. Place was busy with loads of kids!!
Not too much evidence of the whole Maddy thing. Saw a couple of posters up...

Yep. This thread started exactly three years ago, look at the date.

Ah Christ I totally missed that!

Funny you should say that...I've always said, they didn't directly kill her. They'd been fiddling prescriptions, she found their 'stash' and OD'd on something. They panicked, and using their doctors skills disposed of the body in a 'breaking bad' stylee...

I know it's very conspiratorial but there is something about them...and they were extremely 'enjoying' their celebrity status.

Plus they ripped off the public!

Or she got kidnapped because they are bad parents who left the kids alone with an open window in a foreign country. Living off the 'maddy search' fund however is pretty vile, especially considering they are both doctors who could probably have funded it quite easily themselves if they had stayed in work.

Yeah, they should have been banged up for leaving all their kids unsupervised while they went of and had their dinner.

Yes, I bet those filthy foreigners couldn't resist the oportunity to kidnap a British child.

I didn't realise they'd given up work. That's interesting, as its not something you can just pick up and go back to after so long out of the game. They'd have to find a returner scheme to take them on and retrain for a year now. This would be an extra motivation to keep maddiemania going, as without it they're unemployed and would find it very difficult to go back to their old jobs.

If I were a more cynical man I'd say this is an attempt to keep publicity going. Even if they're not guilty of anything and they're telling the absolute truth, they're just really living in denial at this stage.

Though to be honest all remaining sympathy I may have had drained after they released the book because 'the find madeleine fund had dried up'.

Because they spent it on their mortgage for their posh home.

Is there a source for that?

edit: them using the profits to pay off their mortgage.

It states that they made two mortgage payments whilst they were still not working, because they were abroad searching for their kid. Doesn't seem that unreasonable to me. Any family would need to continue paying their normal bills/rent, whether they were medical consultants or a council tracksuit family. They've still got a couple of other kids, so it's not like they could downsize to a one bed house to free up the money.

They were abroad searching for their kid in Washington DC, and Vatican City. Maybe the pope had her!
