My team at the end was always Crono - Lucca - Robo, for some reason. Sometimes I swapped Robo out for Frog.

    Marle sucks! :D

In the DS content, I swapped Lucca out for Magus. Purely because Magus is cool.

Lucca has the most stupidly overpowered magic in the game, and her guns are good too. Flare is just broken. I've won entire high-level battles just by spamming Luminaire and Flare.

And I love her relationship with Robo. Awwwww

Nah I ment the part with Janus(Janos?) with that city in the clouds. I vaguely remember something about climbing a snow covered mountain with Lavos spawn as enemies or something.
Ooooh. That's pretty far. Almost at the end, really.

Maybe you could start a New Game + and get the ending list. I'm sorry, but that's all I can suggest.

I'm not sure about movie 9, but 10 is unlocked if you get the special DS-only ending.

Right, Black Omen and the Queen taken care off. Tonight it's Lavos hammering time.

Took a long time to get into this for me for some reason (high expectations?) but it will be a real shame to see it end.

I do have alternative endings and Dragon Quest V to take the edge off though.

I gave up at the annoying emo bit (the fantasy bit). It got very dull then. Anyone know how far I am from the end?

I don't know why you keep describing that bit as emo. There's nothing remotely emo about it.

Oh and I'd say you're about 5/7 of the way through ;)
  • Deleted user 18 March 2009 01:00:56
Well the game has generally been fun and light hearted and this is all straight faced and final fantasy (I love FF but this is too much out of place imo). 5/7 eh? I'm only at 12 hours.

    Quick lil question...

    Active or Wait battle mode?

Wait, unless you want a real challenge.

I played all the way through on Active - wasn't a problem...

Well this just turned into a bit of a joke, how in the hell do you defeat the Golem sisters without spending the next 3 hours grinding. Which people love to point out that this game doesn't require.

It doesn't require any grinding at all. In fact, you can win that battle without taking any damage quite easily.

They're tough, but there is a trick to them.

Basically, attack with area attacks from different elements. This causes them to "shift" the counter that they do. That counts as an action for them, losing them a whole turn. Attack with Luminaire, wait for a bit, then attack with Flare, wait for a bit, then repeat, or use another element.

Or, if you want, equip everyone with armor that cancels out a certain element, then only attack with that.
Also, the game doesn't require grinding, on the whole. It really doesn't. Having good equipment is much more important.

Alternatively, have Ayla and Robo use Boogie. Then you can kill them however you like.

Cheers I tried that and I lasted a bit longer! Still got destroyed though as I could only attack with magic from two characters and then had to heal with Robo. My magic was also barely doing any damage :(
I have Robo and Frog in my party and they have been there for so long I don't dare swap them out. I'll keep trying though.

This is very true. Playing it through again, I'd forgotten actually how easy it is. If you do all the side quests, by the time you reach Lavos, pretty much all your characters should have 999 hp and 99 mp, without any grinding whatsoever. I can't think of any boss that presents a genuine challenge, unless you just don't figure out the trick to defeating them.

It just goes to show that you can have an amazing, in depth, emotionally involving game which is a really manageable size (about 20 hours with all the side quests), and isn't artificially difficult. More games like this please!

Set it to wait and followed your advice and it was much easier, done now :)

Am I right in thinking that characters still level up with you, even if they're not fighting in your main party of three? I just noticed that the other day, I always rotated the characters around so that they could level up evenly.

I'm currently on Belthasar's ship, just after the Ocean Palace.. The game seems to be going on a lot longer than I expected, maybe because I'd read that it's actually quite short compared to other RPGs. Also - I know you can fight Lavos as soon as you enter the End of Time, but is it actually possible to defeat him there? I've never actually tried, but I'm guessing it's only possible when you start a new game after completion.

The characters all level up regardless of whether they're in play or not. I don't think they all get Tech Points though, so it's probably a good idea to keep rotating them to get all the magicks.

On your first playthrough, you will get absolutely slaughtered by Lavos if you use the bucket at the End of Time (when you first get there). That's why the guy warns you. Even after grinding lots and lots, it would still be very difficult without some good weapons and armor.

    Any tactics on Lavos please?

I've been handed my ass twice now and it's getting a little boring.

What level are your characters at?

By which I mean - do all the side quests before you get to Lavos, and he won't be a problem.

I've done most of the shit but when I get to the second for I get 'slowed' and some 'tear' attack does over 1000 damage to my boys and down they go.

    Annoying!
