My country, the United States, uses nuclear weapons as a deterrent.
Yeah, I only scan-read down to the bottom, but, yes, everyone think of Japan while pointing and staring at the Yank.

For anyone who thinks that the US has been responsible with its nuclear weapons, there is one book that you should look up. It's called Command and Control, by Eric Schlosser. It's a hilariously horrifying read.

    @Riven326

And why do you have the largest military in the world. America spends more than the next top 13 nations combined, a disgusting figure.

Industrial Military complex, your nation depends upon constant war to feed it's massive arms industry, no war is bad for business eh!

Dwight Eisenhower used the term Industrial Military complex in his farewell speech in 1961 and the grave warnings that would come if America followed this path, how many of people of power in America have ties with the like of Lockheed, Raytheon, Halliburton and the whole collective of heavy arms manufactures, I'd imagine these individuals and their respective employers have a distinct effect upon American foreign policy?

If you want peace, prepare for war. The Americans just love peace a lot.

Hey, so maybe now that they're putting warheads onto missiles and threatening to use them, we should probably change the thread title from "Iran" to "North Korea". For all the hand-wringing about Iran, they haven't done anything like this.

Worth a necro-bump for Mola Ram being a year ahead of the game.

    Thread title change please.

Lol, good to see I can get some predictions right. :p

I still don't think a nuclear exchange is at all likely, mainly because I don't think Kim Jong-un is crazy or irrational (accidents are a possibility, though).

If conflict happens, I think it will be with conventional forces. And thousands of artillery shells currently aimed at Seoul. :/

Did he not execute a high ranking official by firing an AA gun at him and exploding him?

Yes? I don't see how that makes him irrational or crazy, though. Ruthless, sure, but not irrational.

It's quite alarming that "No effort was made by Japan to shoot down the missile" . I'm guessing they had no idea if it was armed or not.

I think it might be time for the US to apologise to North Korea and start discussing about dismantling the naval base they built in Jeju.

Of course they won't, since there's that orange buffoon leading the country. But that would be a very simple way to de-escalate the situation on the peninsula.

Japan colonised and ruled Korea at some point (1900ish maybe?). I think that ended when the Japanese surrendered in WWII but I have to admit my history is pretty shocking and even this much is probably wrong, but there's definitely plenty of beef there. They're not joining each others fan clubs anytime soon.

Japan annexed Korea in 1910 and colonised and ruled it until 1945. To some extent, they tried to assimilate Koreans by forcing them to speak Japanese, take Japanese names etc., and erase Korean culture and history. This is of course beef all of Korea has with Japan, not just NK. Even in SK, Japan is still unpopular.

After WW2, in the fierce rivalry between the two Koreas Japan has sided with SK, I guess that's where much of the anger comes from.

NK abducting Japanese people in the past didn't help relations either. Add the missile threats and you'll understand why Japan has an extremely bad opinion of NK.

I love 'em, me. Up the Un is my regular catchphrase. Make NK great again. We could be an extremely xenophobic autarky like them now we're leaving the evil captialist-corporatist EU.

So more than 1% of people in the UK think that North Korea has a positive influence on the world?

Interestingly enough... NK does a lot of construction work in Africa. It's mostly brokered as sub-contracting for Chinese construction companies. Of course par for course all the money goes to the regime.

I honestly have zero faith in the population of the UK these days but there's no chance in hell that 9% of the population think that North Korea has a positive influence on the world.

Look at the brexiteers and Trump voters, believing they're railing against the status quo. Perhaps they're just being contrary. I can fully believe that at least 9% of the people polled are stupid enough to admire North Korea sticking it to the man.

    Hopefully they're all sterile.
