@quadfather heh, call me old fashioned, but I prefer software rendering. GLQuake comes from that era where bilinear just blurred everything, like in a Nintendo 64 game.

(you can actually setup GLQuake to look like software rendering, but what's the point?)

I've just started episode 2. I'm on nightmare and you've got to be on the fucking ball!

    I heard that.

When I played online in a league, I had it on software at 320 x 200 in software mode because I was convinced that it was more responsive :)

I do prefer the sharpness of software and the while the gl engines and launchers can do the fullbright setting, it doesn't seem the same to me.

    Maybe we're just old :)

Playing it on a macbook using the Epsilon binaries. It adds lighting and stuff.

yeah quake deathmatch is ace to watch. It does seem like in a lot of ways we've gone backwards.

It didn't even dawn on me that I could circle-strafe in shooters until I actually looked at the demo. It was then that I decided to switch to WASD.

A lot of old games are so much easier if you use strafing and mouse. I guess they were balanced to be playable for people who only had the keyboard.

It's certainly come back to me much quicker than other games I've left for a while. But then, I did play it religiously online for years so that's probably why. It's also the defining game for me where I learnt how to fps. Doom was a good pre cursor, but I nailed it with quake. No pun intended.

It just seems the only game that's fast enough for me. Most modern shooters seem too sluggish. It's like being set free again.

Tried software again earlier and I'll think I'll have to go back to that. It's just far more responsive.

Even better if you just write it into the autoexec.cfg

Quake was also so easy to mod. My brother still occasionally makes mods to this day.

I had a really good script for the grenade launcher for MP. It would make you look up, switch to grenade launcher, fire it, reset the look back to normal and reset back to your previously used weapon.

So if someone is on your case behind you, you can press this a few times and hear that glorious gib noise in your rear speakers :p

Well, if you can pump out 3-5 grenades in 1-2 seconds, vertically upright so they go behind you as you're running, and still still be able to use your previous weapon to take out people in front of you, *whilst still seeing forward the whole time* without a script, then I bow down to you :)

I don't really save in quake - I just keep doing it till I've done it. I save once per level at the start

You just keep going - its like dark souls - you learn it all eventually. Makes you learn it better and helps with the reactions. Well, it does for me, each to their own though innit

Never played much quake mp but spend years on Return to Castle Wolfenstein.
I miss a medic when I'm in MP now. What's up with this "don't get hit a few seconds and your health recharges" crap?

    @Salaman

Ive heard it called "progress" but I think it's more to do with the namby pamby way of things nowadays.

I like to keep going as the health gets lower. It's quite satisfying killing stuff with 1-5% health. Good rush :)

It's finally happening, Day of the Tentacle Remastered coming to GOG on 22nd March 2016.

Will be 10.99 at launch though (9.99 if you pre-order) which seems excessive considering the LucasArts adventure games are usually half that when added to GOG, and that it will no doubt be on sale within a few months.

Insomnia sale on at GOG at the moment. It's one of those annoying sales that's for a set amount of sales though, one game at a time with 25 copies at sale price. If it's something good it's literally gone in 2 seconds.
