Registered 15 years agoWasn't really an option. Had to have it up and running for work as fast as possible. -
So after having a special deal for 6 months, with free BT Sport...they told me prior to phone them up, and see what deals I can get to carry on for another 6 months. I was just told there are no deals, and I'm on the best deal...but they've taken BT Sport off me, and the £3 credit a month. I feel like phoning them up again.

Be careful how often you call them up, it degrades the wires -

Registered 6 years agoWord of warning, if you take up the offer of the free TV upgrade they're running they'll try to force the Hub 3 on you. Don't activate it, the wireless speeds are half what you'll see on the 2 but even worse there's a flaw with the chipset which means you'll get huge latency spikes when gaming. I've just had a fuck on getting them to reactivate my 2. -
Christ, and the Hub 2 isn't that great really is it? Signal drops all the bloody time here, despite fiddling with the band etc.
Would love to ditch Virgin but there aren't that many great options, certainly nothing cost effective enough to warrant the fuss. -

Registered 6 years agoI don't have much problem with the 2ac, pretty steady 180mb over wireless. The 3 I couldn't get over 75. And there's a 300 page post on their forum with people complaining about the latency spikes. It's supposed to make gaming almost impossible. -

Registered 16 years agoYeah, I've been using the 3 for 6 months and not really had any issues with at all, but keep an eye on the thread as some people's experiences have been quite poor. -

Registered 9 years agoI dropped my home hub 2 into modem mode the day I got it and have rebooted it a couple of times in the last few years. Never been keen on ISP supplied kit though as its always shit. -

Registered 6 years agoThe latency thing still happens in modem mode apparently. They've been promising a patch for a while now but it looks as though its a chipset issue rather than firmware so I doubt they'll be able to fix it. -

Registered 14 years agoI've had all the superhubs and have never had a problem with them. Steam tops out at about 27MB/s on 200Mb, everything else important is wired and tends to hover around 100Mb, so I've now dropped to 100Mb. Never had any problem with latency wireless or wired, although to be fair I don't go online that often.

Registered 13 years agoHad the previous hub. Could only connect 4 devices at once before it started fucking up cutting the signal off abd slowing speeds down. If I had the tv On, ps4, phone... If anyone else did anything tablet or phone one of the other lost connection.
New one so far touch wood is fine. -

Registered 15 years agoI'm trying to ring Virgin to downgrade my package, since they don't let you do it through the website. I really just can't get through.
If you want an upgrade funnily enough that line isn't too busy to get through.
Is there a way I can downgrade without ringing them? Can I send a strongly worded letter or something. This is rediculous time waiting on hold. -
@whatthefu pick the I'm going to leave option and you'll probably get through pretty quick. They'll usually give you a decent deal to not leave / downgrade. -

Registered 17 years agoI've always found virgin pretty good when I phone them to 'downgrade'. Always ends up with me getting an upgrade and paying less. -

Registered 9 years agoThey were a bastard to me when I had to leave them after 5 years. They just couldn’t fathom I was moving house to a non Virgin area for some reason. I wish to god I could’ve stayed with them, the Sky line in my new house is 10% of the speed for a similar price when the contract runs out. VM were rock solid for 5 years straight, great ISP. But yeah leaving was way more stressful than it should’ve been. -

Registered 15 years agoI did finally get through, as soon as I ranted about it here, and I cancelled some of the services rather than take the 12 month discount on the same package and go through the same stuff next year. Just waiting on the confirmation email.
@greg_wha Indeed their broadband is pretty good

They were fine when I did the same. Using BT for a year was awful. I was delighted when Virgiin started digging up the streets around my house so we could actually get good speed and reliability.

Registered 9 years agoWe’re on virgin’s top phone package (talk anytime or whatever) as my mrs spends most of the day on the phone to her mum and sister.
Her sister recently changed to sky mobile, and virgin charged me £80 for calls to them as they are insisting it’s not sky mobile it’s Lyca mobile or something (an overseas provider) so i’m Being charged for overseas call charges. I’ve explained it’s sky mobile and I shouldn’t be charged but they are insistent it’s overseas and won’t credit me.
I complained, but still nothing. Anyone else had this issue? -

Registered 9 years agoYeah I don’t really want to let it go. It’s definitely a sky mobile contract she is on so it should be free. -
Is the layman expected to know Sky piggybacks (or is recognised) as Lyca? Sounds shady.
