Its strange, I never really consider downloading tv shows as downloading illeagal content. Since the tv show mentioned above is probably available on dvd I guess it is. Never even thought about it though. :\

Can anyone recommend me a new ISP? Ive heard good things about BT.

So it looks like Virgin is suffering a network wide outage just now. Seems to happen regular...

This explains why iplayer through the pPS3 is shit tonight buffering every 10 seconds, but I've been getting crap like this for a good few months now. 50mbs fibre package but only managing 3.9mbs. Any tips other than change provider?

Been having a few issues of late, been messing up my Titanfall sessions and that is just going too far. Try:

    1) Log into your (I'm assuming) superhub and change the frequency/channel.
    2) Reset the modem.
    3) Give the tossers a phone call in the morning.

I'm happy my Internet actually works after my BT debacle - Internet went off every ten minutes, they sent TWELVE engineers around (who were all told that were installing Internet, not fixing)  - but my Virgin speed in the evenings is terrible. I'll usually get 50-90mb down when it's not peak, but 6mb after six pm. Does anyone else have this issue?

Sounds like throttling to me. Are they still doing that?

    @Nexus_6
If in normal router mode i.e. wireless on etc: http://192.168.0.1/
Login details should be on the modem itself (underneath)
If in cable-modem mode it will be http://192.168.100.1/, but not many options obv.

    Fuck Virgin.

Just tried to do Shareplay with a friend (first time trying) and it says my connection is too slow.

    I check speedtest, I'm getting 2mbp/s.

Why? Because they throttle you. Fucking hard.

    http://my.virginmedia.com/traffic-management/traffic-management-policy-thresholds.html

    On the XL60, I can get 60mb down, 3mb up with a 900mb cut-off limit.

    Fuck that.
I postede that in the other Virgin Media thread, but does anyone know a way around this without subbing to a higher package? :/

From what I've read a 3rd party company has accidently cut one of the countries main fibre lines and it's affecting 3 ISP's no idea if true or not *shrug*

Fucking hell, that's some absolutely ridiculous traffic management!

That looks like it won't be possible to stream high-definition content; is that the case?

I can generally stream high def content at peak times with very little buffering.

Still not impressed with Virgin Media at the mo. Outages and local upgrades mean no more than 1.5mb d/l at peak times.

No connection at all yesterday evening. Good to have a few Blu Rays on hand!

Was thinking of joining Virgin and guessing the more you spend the less traffic management your line gets? As anything 30meg and above has little management.

    @captbirdseye
Guy above is on the XL60 package and gets crucified, so I'd say a big fat no to that...

Have to say this combined with just kicking ADSL users off the service has made them an ISP I'd never consider

I think that's what 'meant' to happen. They've upgraded us from 30 to 50 and the connection seems 'abit' more stable. Though I'm yet to see any differences in the wifi connections. That said our connection is far better than people that have had sky or the likes locally.

Looks that way on paper but seems the quality and resilience of the service is poor. We're getting connected today from EE, which hasn't been great - I was hoping that opting for fibre would improve things but this doesn't fill me with confidence...

I guess you're working with what you have available at your address, I presume there's no fibre service? It's been a long time since I needed to even think about the speed I'm getting - it's always 'fast enough'.

This page claims that on 30Mb+, it's only upload that is throttled, DL should be fine:

    http://my.virginmedia.com/traffic-management/traffic-management-policy-30Mb-or-higher.html

Assume Shareplay is P2P and that's why that is throttled....
  • Deleted user 1 April 2015 09:03:03
We get fibre, but network reliability seems poor. Fingers crossed it's no worse than EE. What's the customer service like?

I've been getting pretty regular dropouts ever since I joined Virgin in Dec 13, to the point where I've given up reporting the problems and I just go on 4G through my mob to get me by whilst it's down. I'm on about 120mb fibre on their biggest package, currently paying £127 a month as I'm out of the half-price offer I got... glad my contract is up in May, time to consider options.

Yup. Only 3mb up isn't good enough to allow sharply at all, from my machine, because it would stream the screen exactly to someone else's ps4.

Thing is, I don't really have much of a choice, as my area is Virgin fibre only. I'd have to pay 7.50 extra a month to get a better package with less throttling, but even then it's forced to 12mb up.

Compare it with my friends BT fibre who apparently gets 70 down and 50 up and it's a fucking joke.

It's quite rare for BT's fibre network not to be in an area where VM are - their network overlay is almost identical.

Yeah wtf?? I pay £42 for my line rental and 100mbps package from them.

They've been pretty decent for me touch wood. Had one or two outages but always resolved within a few days. Once it was because they'd unplugged us to plug someone else in at the cabinet.
