The review seems to be down atm, what complaints did they have? curious as to if they picked up anything I didn't.
I'd probably have given it an 7/10 and I'm normally way harsher than IGN. The good games are far, far too short (shorter than most of the crap ones) but as an overall package, especially with more than one player, it's probably the most fun you can have with a Wii short of selling it and getting a proper console.
Hey the wii has some ....
They just thought that as only 5 of the games were excellent and almost as many were plain underwhelming it should only get an average score.
for me it's about the multiplayer fun and I'm sure I'll get the value out of it -

Registered 15 years agoHey, Pirotic had given it an 8 and now switched it to a 7! -
Don't see the gripes with the presentation (the reviews up now), it's far more polished than Wii Sports which they gave a pretty decent score too didn't they? The introduction is great, and the 'leave it at the main menu' sequence is also sweet.
As for the music, I can't say I remember it at all, I know the jet ski has about 20 seconds of Waverace styled music (might actually be Waverace, my memory is a bit pish) which got me all hyped up, only for it to change to genetic forgettable tosh once I started actually racing
but it wasn't at any point offensive or noticeable bad, just bland.
Anyhow, wait for some other reviews. I wouldn't let that IGN score put you off it if you loved the original. -

Maybe someone twigged that there are loads of obvious factual inaccuracies in the review.
Stuff like the reviewer claiming that power isn't taken into account for Frisbee throwing, when actually it is. There just isn't a fucking massive power meter to show you - it flies as far as the strength/angle you throw it. For example, twist the Wiimote so that the Frisbee faces straight up and throw it straight up softly, and it'll do precisely what you'd expect a real Frisbee to do - not catch the wind and go bugger-all distance.
It's a frighteningly poor review, it really is. -

Having said that I never got the chance to read it all so it could be a terrible review. -

Just have to wait and compare to IGN UK and US reviews, sometimes there can be a significant difference between the 3. As for the power meter, isnt it really a point of M+ that you shouldn't need a power meter? -

Registered 20 years ago7's not bad, but tbh this game really is going to be a bit of a waste of time as a single player pursuit. This wil undoubtedly be wheeled out at christmas round at Maybe Towers for a bit of multiplayer mayhem in the lounge rather than watching the Queen's speech.
Bit disappointed that the EG review seemed to concentrate solely on the sky diving bit as being good, because that was the bit I was least interested in

Registered 18 years agoPretty much what I expected. Lots of new content, some good and some not so much.
It all looks lovely and charming, especially the whole island concept, but is it worth £40? The original at least came with the console, which made it harder to complain about its shortcomings. It's also a shame that golf and bowling don't seem to have been expanded or improved in any way from the original.
In fact, what about table tennis? That looked like it could be a winner, and there's no mention of it in the review... -

Which is why I cancelled my pre-order last week. That and I figured the two strongest games in it would be the ones I already own. -

Personally the high score aspect would be compelling enough for me, and the review implies there are quite a few SP-focused challenges. But it's a real shame that Wii doesn't do online leaderboards like the 360, as this is one of those games that would really benefit from it. -

No mention of the jet skis either. I loved Waverace 64 and the jetski bit looks like it could float my boat quite nicely in that respect.

Ah I dunno, I think if I was doing a review for it, I'd have broken it down sport by sport with how successful each one is and how good a use of the Wiimote / WMP it makes.
But that would probably be a lot more boring a read than reading about someone skydiving with hitler and dan ayckroyd -

No mention of Table Tennis..
No mention of how well the motion plus works..
A very lighweight review of an important game. -

Other reviews say both have noticeable improvements in precision and reliability. Not a mention here though. -

Registered 20 years agoI'd seriously hope that the golf was at least making use of the WMP for putting now if not for actual long shots.
Really need to see another review (or the game itself would be preferable. Ah well, only a week or so to go.) -

Registered 18 years agoSurely Wii Sports has always been a multiplayer game. Its at the heart of Nintendos home stratergy. It fits straight into the original design idea behind the Wii that the controller should look like a remote, so that the whole family feels comfortable playing.
This isnt a game for "gamers" to sit at home playing in the dark on their own. The whole point is playing it with friends/family. To review it as a single player game, and not as a party game is totaly missing the point.
The original is probably my least played solo game, and yet by far the most played multiplayer game in the house. -

Yeah it's on preorder (actually the missus bought it not me).
If this isn't at the very least a WMP showcase, then Nintendo have seriously dropped the ball haven't they?
Given how well the WMP works in EA sports titles (so far) it'd better be worthy of note in this, surely? So why no mention?
Was this another one of those half assed "reviewed on a devkit Wii" jobs? -

Registered 14 years agoAgree with gamingdave there, this is a multiplayer game at heart and should be seen as such, had mine on pre-order for ages now as I just know it will be great fun with me and the good lady playing together (and maybe the in-laws although I try and discourage that kind of thinking) -

Registered 20 years agoYes yes, I know Wii Sports was pretty much a waste of time as a single player game but Wii Sports Resort sounded like it had a few more single-player-friendly games in it (like the jet skis, skydiving etc).
Plus - how the hell else am I ever going to beat my other half if I don't get in lots of sneaky single player practicing

But the two things don't have to be mutually exclusive. And I don't think putting a deeper single-player experience in Resort would have lessened its multi-player appeal at all. So why limit your sales by not offering it? -

Registered 18 years agoI do agree. A good party game can have an engaging single player at its heart. Such as (to stick with Nintendo) Mario Karts. But thats more for games where the other players are controlled by AI. MK is a fun game as it stands (and I spent a lot of time playing it) but so much better multiplayer (online or off).
The thing with Wii Sports is, I truely think its ALL about multiplayer. Adding online leaderboards would be nice, and offer some reason to play more, but I doubt I really would. The events as they are just fit multiplayer with people in the same room, so much more than as single player games. It would have been a bad move IMO to try and make the events more focussed to single player, so for me, it seems it will do exactly what I want it too.
Of course, its all down to the individual at the end of the day, and I wouldnt diss anyone for saying it doesnt offer what they want, just that the EG review seemed to miss out the fact it is (as far as Nintendo is concerned) ment to be enjoyed with friends. -
Not having (at the very least) online scoreboards is a massive fail for me. I just don't get why online multiplayer wasn't included, even for just some of the events.
Big missed opportunity. I'll probably still buy it though cos I'm a fanboy.
