I don't believe so, no - you get what's essentially a cut down version of the full game, i.e you can't access all the content, subject to a level cap and can't trade items - the usual sort of thing you'd expect from a trail. You're only charged if you upgrade the account to a full one using a retail key as far as I understand it.

You would however need to supply an e-mail address for it to be sent to though.

Well after hearing STO acknowledges the JJVerse I hope the game allows for
players to chose to be Federation Primist's who want to correct the anomally
that is the JJVerse as that will be my goal
  • Deleted user 23 December 2009 11:47:08
I dont really care gayrub and I doubt cryptic do as well seeing as correcting the "anamally" would screw up their story arc.

:( shame its starting to sound as fan wank as the Bethesda games, they'll start say the Borg evolved from V'Ger next
  • Deleted user 23 December 2009 12:08:54
Yeah I've heard that borg origin story before. What cock started that?!

Play.com have finally got the Gold Edition to pre-order. Extra skill points and a DS9 uniform set. I really, really want DS9 uniforms, but I think they're a part of the Special Edition, not Play.com pre-order goodies. I'll just wait and see, and probably get drunk tonight and order what will be my 3rd copy of the game for them.

After CO i can't help but feel pessimistic about this one.

Hopefully it'll rock etc in the end, are we many in the closed beta?

That's not in your precious prime universe gayrub. It even says so in the first sentance.

Looks like an interesting read though.

Where can you get the Special Edition (deluxe Atari) in the EU?! I thought it was US only.
  • Deleted user 23 December 2009 15:34:12
Direct2drive have it - the digital version is also the only way to get your hands on the original series uniforms.

Yeah it was Shatner who started it. Ashes of Eden or one of the ones after, I read it years back.

Even though STO acknowledges the new timeline, what timeline is the game set in? The old one with Romulus destroyed, or te new one with Vulcan destroyed?

    D2D UK STO Deluxe

I've already bought it and got my headstart key on my account.

Fuzz - It's the Prime timeline, so Romulus has been destroyed, triggering the events described in the story you can read on the official site. Vulcan is very much intact.

The old 'Romulus is toast' one, though to be fair setting it in the future has enabled them to do their own thing to a certain extent. Don't expect it to look too much like TNG etc.

    Which I like, personally.

Ditto. It's listed as Star Trek Pre Order Keys for D2D once you stick it into your Cryptic account. TOS uniforms ahoy!

Actually slightly surprised they have their keys available already.

So was I, but I certainly won't complain given the lateness I got my CO headstart! First experience with D2D, would certainly consider them again.

I think I'll be half sensible and only buy the one physical copy (I'm still having 2 copies though). I can live without the extra skill points exclusive to Play. If the DS9 uniforms aren't just a part of the Special Edition from anywhere else, I'll just have a TOS uniform instead :)

I hope Romulus being destroyed doesn't f up the Romulans they were always my favourite Species possibly as they were so under used compared to the Klingons and never really got a big screen movie, Certainly Sela would of been an excellent baddie in Nemesis instead of that crappy clone.

Is there a Hardware analyser to check if I can run this game?

Yeah I never said it was, I just used it as example of the crappy non cannon stories that get pumped out to milk the fan base

I know I kept plugging it earlier in the thread but you might have missed it - go to the official Star Trek Online site and read the Path To... Series of articles. Not only do the Romulans recover, but Sela is a central player in post-Hobus events.

The Hobus supernova that destroyed Romulus and threatened to expand exponentially and destroy the galaxy, but Spock stopped using the Red Matter.

Ok... um whats Red Matter? Hey wait amin how can a super nova expand exponetially there is only a finite amount of fuel in a star

Because it was a freak supernova that converted the mass of planets it destroyed onto furthur energy. That's why it was so dangerous, it could keep expanding and consuming planets as long as there were planets in the way to fuel it's path.

Red Matter is refined Decalthium that can be used to create an artificial singularity. Firing a Red Matter weapon into the supernova constricted it so it couldn't destroy any more planets, so it could weaken and be drawn into the black hole.

    What question?

Also, I enjoyed champions online for the first 2 weeks, now I think it's shit. It's held together by hope, faith and possibly tape.

    MMO's are a sloppy genre.

I do apologise gl3nmeister. Only question I saw was asking if many were in closed beta, but people couldn't really say if they were. Though as a lifetime suber I was guaranteed by the end of December. Make of that what you will.

If I missed anything else scrolling about on my tony iPod screen do let me know :)
