Zen is what you buy with cash. Ignore everything else for now, you'll pick it all up in no time I do hope your installation woes are over.

Registered 13 years agoI wouldn't worry about any of that starting out. Jump in and follow the prompts at first and get a few missions under your belt in the main story. -

Registered 16 years agoBest way to learn the game is to blow shit up and you can't do that better than having escorts with big fucking cannons and a torpedo launcher on the front, tactical captains take advantage of them best.
I'm slightly biased having a tac Vice Admiral as my main. -

Depends on what you want to do. Engineering gives you access to thinks such as bombs, mines and turrets, as well as powers that interfere with enemy weapons and armour. Science has powers that can heal and enhance allies, as well as effects that weaken and interfere with enemies. Tactical has more offensive options like grenades and effects that enhance your killing power, and some powers to lower and enhance the threat you generate, making enemies more or less likely to target you.

There's no wrong answers and you won't lock off any ship choice. I'm an Engineer but I fly a Science focused Intrepid. -

I'll be about for an hour or 2 should you have any questions. I'd send you a Fleet invite if I knew your character name but I don't, plus you might have alternate Fleet plans -

Yeah. Unlocks more character slots, bank slots and 500 Zen every month. There are other benefits too but it's ages since I checked that out. Can't see the point myself, better off just buying the individual perks you want. -

Registered 11 years agoFinally giving my KDF side captain some love, flicking through the missions there is a serious content draught without the feature episodes being in there. -

Registered 9 years agowell all the active members of the fleet are Vice Admiral rank so we can all give you a hand if you need it! -
You've still got the Duty Officer system to look forward to, where you build up a crew to do stuff like Level 5 Diagnostics, diplomatic functions, staff councilling, sabotaging enemy facilities and getting totally hammered then ending up in Sickbay
It really is mostly straightforward, you don't have to worry about most things until latet on. -

Registered 16 years agoJust had a run of Cure, one person was using the Romulan hyper plasma torpedo and when we were attacking the carrier it looked like he had a constant stream of heavy plasma torpedoes heading towards it!
It even had people talking about it in a PUG STF it was so astonishing!
I was certainly impressed, I nearly bought one straight away, I think I'll do a little investigation first, 500 Rom Rep and 15K Dil is fair investment to make.

anyway according to notes on Tribble, for the new STO gateway it now has support for including fleets to do with fleets, doff stuff can't be that far away now.

Registered 16 years agoHigh level fleet stuff is probably the best in the game, we don't have a high level fleet though!
I'd stick to Borg stuff, I was playing Gorn Minefield last night and I didn't place first for a change because someone was disintegrating ships with plasma energy bolts. It was like the Borg made an appearance in the mission.
I initially thought I'd somehow done it as a ship I was attacking disappeared without realising someone else was attacking it too. -

Registered 11 years agoI think we have at least Very Rare XI pistols. They seem to have more DPS than my current weapon anyway. Perhaps I will go for it anyway.
That reminds me..I need to boost my ships weapons too. I have 4mil EC in the bank so hopefully should find something for my ship. -

Registered 13 years agoHmmm, how is this game for someone coming from WoW? I've been looking for a new MMO and this one does sound interesting but the original reviews paint it as awful.
Has it changed a lot? And is it okay for the casual player? -

Registered 12 years agoThings like the first person mode and rebalanced weapons have improved ground combat, the space combat has always been pretty good. A lot of the filler 'kill 5 things' levelling missions have been replaced with featured episodes, making levelling a lot more enjoyable (you should hit max level before the last storyline mission) and with the Doff and Reputation systems you can earn credits, dilithium and items while your virtual crew do missions for you. -

CaptainBirdseye = What myk said was pretty spot on. All that stuff adds up to make it a significantly better game. So lots of change, and it's certainly okay for casual players as well as people wanting to do high level stuff. There's also user created missions to given you approximately INFINITY missions now
Ground combat will be easy enough for you too - although there is the 3rd person shooter mode, the old RPG style combat is still there, which works similar to pretty much every MMO, though perhaps a little more pacey. Space combat is a different story, but it'll ease you in. -

Your ship will be waiting for you when you're ready, jellyhead. That and what must be over £50 worth of points to buy shiny new ships
