Registered 16 years agoWell pleased at this. Spent an afternoon reminiscing and making paper Vipers, Escape Pods and Space Stations on a table with Ian Bell a couple of years ago during GameCity Nottingham's Elite tribute. Came across as a decent chap, though perhaps somewhat defensive following years of protracted wranglings.
Though I doubt he will have anything to do with this, I'd be interested on his take on this Kickstarter and what form his idea of Elite would now take. -

Registered 10 years agoI imagine they will add more later, Braben has talked about adding content after the game launches and more ships will probably be the first of it we'll see. -

This would be funny; as you all actually still have to pay.

They all seem to be highly moddable though, with hardpoints for turrets and engines and that.

So it'll be more like 30 ships once the couple of optimal fits are figured out for them. -

What a massive opportunity lost.
Also if it's not written purely in machine code and it doesn't fit into 22k like on the original and clearly best BBC Model B version then it's just LAZY programming.
And that's just a fact. -

Registered 9 years agoShame I can't find the pdfs for the origami Cobra MkIII, Thargoid, Sidewinder and escape pod - just the videos. Probably copyrighted by someone who could actually make money off them now, like the guy in those videos.
Ah well. At least I can brush up on the manual while I wait. -

Registered 16 years agoHeh, found some of the Gamecity sheets and an example of the Cobra mkIII signed by David Braben, Ian Bell and Mark Bolitho (friend of Ian Bell and the Origami expert)! Looks like there were 8 but I only have Sidewinder, Thargoid, Missile & Cobra... -

Registered 11 years agoso noticed this had a column on the bbc news page, but the bit under one of the pictures says you can prey on traders as a priate. Now they have done it! next time somali pirates hijack a ship elite will cause video games to get the blame! -

Registered 15 years agoThey're about £4000 off the Mac stretch goal currently with 22 hours to go. Highly doubt they're going to make the 1.5 million stretch for the extra 10 ships though.

Registered 16 years agoIt's hard to say. They topped 100k of pledges yesterday, so if they do the same today they should finish at a little over 1.5k.
Edit: Just trickled over the 1.4k stretch goal. 21 hours left.

I'll pick this up in a Steam sale for a fiver if it turns out not to be shit or even gets made at all. Thanks, everyone.
