\o/ To be honest, after eating mainly in pubs for the last 4 years, anything will be an improvement!

Hawksmoor is ace, but only the commercial road one, the one in guildhall was really dissapointing.

I also like Goodmans because they bring the raw meats round and show you them before you choose which is always nice.

Gaucho tried and tested, good solid food. Going next thursday \o/

    Hawksmoor all the way.

Everyone expenses lunch at Gaucho's so they get loads of suits/business and no one gives a fuck, it has gone a bit downhill IMO. Steaks are OK, sides are not bad.

Hawksmoor on the other hand has always been great.

My favourite place for pretty much all meals lately has been Caravan (Kings Cross).

We're talking restaurants so their mains are good, or order a stack of small plates and share with whoever.

But their coffee, brunches & cocktails are all superb as well.

Load, meant to say I tried Opium the other day. Very cool indeed.
Great staff right? Haha plus I love the chinese shouted at you in the bogs!

http://www.loungelover.uk.com/ in shoreditch is another great place though hot girls won't stop bringing you cocktail options! Bill was £150 for two of a few weeks back.

I know this is restaurants, but I had a proper excellent meal in a pub-restaurant recently, The Stonemasons Arms in Hammersmith.

    http://www.stonemasons-arms.co.uk/

We were just looking for a pub near Hammersmith Apollo for something to eat, did not expect the food to be as good as this! Some of the best chips I've ever eaten, and easily the best pub burger I've ever had. Proper posh burger. If you're ever going to the Apollo for something, I absolutely recommend this place.

The Hawksmoor in Covent Garden is also great. It's right near Belgo central.

I've got a bit of money burning a hole in my pocket and fancy going for a really nice meal, preferably in central London. Not quite 'money no object' level stuff, but you know.

BUT! Rather than just reading back and just booking a table at Hawksmoor, this is a bit more interesting: somewhere that does good vegetarian food. Doesn't have to be all-vegetarian or anything, but somewhere does something more interesting than a risotto or a goat's cheese tart.

I'm going to weigh in on the Hawksmoor side. None of the kitsch bullshit of Gauchos, very good winelist, and any restaurant that can make creamed spinach delicious gets a thumbs up from me. Really focussed on the meat as well, everything else is in passing.

    Plus our waiter was ace.

Friend: Hi, can we have the 900g Chateau Briand to share, well done please.

    Waiter: Well done?

    Friend: Well done.

    Waiter: No, you can't.
Why would you be friends with someone who would order well done?
