One thing I neglected to mention but i assume you can get there by Tube right without to much trouble? Crazy Bear was great in that it was literally 1 min from it.
It's a 5 minute walk from Liverpool Street (Central Line), and about 8 minutes from Old Street (Northern). -

Hawksmoor is open on a sat according to the site but my birthday is on a tuesday so its abit of a non-issue anyway but being a strong hater of wine I feel they would look at me in disgust when I ask for some form or cider or god forbid a coke ;p
Not at all, Hawksmoor is very informal and laid back - it's in Shoreditch after all. But go for a cuba libra rather than a coke..gif)
Best steaks (all from the uk) in London imo, and the triple fried chips are awesome.
Best steaks in London you say?

Registered 19 years agoI went to some place in Mayfair once, in an area that was full of cafes as if it was Italy, and thus quite surprising that it wasn't all gangsters, etc., . Had a nice lasagne, I'd recommend the place again. -

Registered 17 years agoAh thanks I think that was the one I was trying to think of. That's one of the old masterchef winners places I believe?
edit - hmmm, although I would much prefer to be able to book a table and that place is canteen style, I've seen the queue on telly and that won't work for the occasion in question -

Searching the Timeout website for Mexican cuisine brings up this one as the highest rated, but I'm not sure if it's any more of a "restaurant" than Wahaca. Seems there's not much of a demand for upmarket Mexican food! -

Nah it's my 30th birthday next monday and me and she are having a day out in London, champagne on the London Eye, aquarium, cocktails and mexican foods. Nice.
That one you linked to looks pretty good actually -

Registered 16 years agoOh I see! Good stuff.
I'm sure I watched a Saturday Kitchen where the guest chef specialised in Mexican food, and he worked in a posh restaurant.. can't for the life of me remember who he was though.
/does some searching
/slow day at work, canteen isn't open yet -

Registered 12 years agoWahaca is awesome but the Covent Garden one is currently the most insanely busy place on Planet Earth. As you cant book expect to either queue for ages or leave you details and return hours later. Once seated, it's quite slooooow. They have exacerbated the glut of tourists by converting about 1/5 of what was previously tables into a bar/waiting area. However the food is fecking delicious so the sooner some of the tourists bugger off the better. -

Registered 16 years agoHow about Mestizo? Has pretty good reviews all round and doesn't have that "cantina" feel. It's near Warren Street, which means *gasp* changing tube line if you're going from Westminster. It even has a cocktail bar downstairs. -

Registered 17 years agoThis is a nice Mexican near Covant Garden and probably likely to be less busy than Wahaca as it takes a little more finding.

I have only been there a couple of times but thought it was very nice. You can definitely book in advance at this place as well. -

Café Pacifico is the oldest Mexican in London, and very good.
